Fan speed problem on GE 12,000 BTU window unit

My unit's fan speed suddenly switched to a low speed and won't go to medium or high setting now, whether by manually changing or by the remote. Is this a DIY problem that can be fixed? This is only the 2nd season the unit has ever been used and I can't afford to spend much to repair it, let alone replace it.

A multi-speed, remote controlled, fan controller that only allows one speed would require a very smart person to repair it. Even the technicians don't repair them. They just replace them. This is going to cost you some parts.

Fan will only blow on low when heat is on

your fan most likely is wired for low speed for heat which is common. this should be determined when furnace is set up properly. motors that aren't modulating motors and are multispeed motors typically have low medium and high taps that come off the motor and go to the corresponding relay on the board. low and medium speeds are used for heat and high and medium speeds are used for cooling. but only one speed for heat and one speed for cooling many times medium never gets used. im not familiar with klimaire is this a mini split system and not a regular air handler. cause speed control should be adjustable from the remote. if its a split but if not reaching desired speed due to a malfunction in the units could cause it to run low speed just to maintain the temperature exiting the indoor unit.

Ok So We Bought This. But We Have A Problem Does It Take Water Or Not? Thats What I Need To Know! Please Help!

The DeLonghi PACA120E Portable Air Conditioner quickly cools rooms up to 400 square feet and comes equipped with several functions that make operation easy and low maintenance. Its 3 operating modes are supplemented with no-drip technology, an adjustable thermostat, 24-hour timer, and much more. This unit truly takes the work out of cooling medium- to large-sized spaces. Multiple Modes and Functions The DeLonghi A120E-also known as the Delonghi Pinguino PAC A120E-offers 3 operating modes and 3 additional operating functions that make this model versatile and energy efficient. Cool Mode: 12,000 BTUs of cooling power help cool large rooms, offices, or basements. Dry Mode: Reduce room humidity by removing excess moisture from the air. Fan Mode: Circulate air to keep your room comfortable without using a lot of energy. Low, medium, high, and an auto-speed are all included (auto speed selects a fan speed for you). Smart Function: Your AC uses Cool and Fan mode based on ambient room temperature. This function will also select your fan speed and keeps your room comfortable without wasting energy. Sleep Function: Using a low fan speed, the AC gradually reduces operation so your room remains comfortable but the AC runs more quietly and efficiently while you sleep. Boost Function: This function is ideal for the summer months and uses the maximum fan speed to rapidly reduce your room temperature. Useful Features Using DeLonghi's patented no-drip technology, this unit is "dripless" under normal conditions, meaning the AC will discharge all of the moisture collected from the air-so you typically won't have to worry about draining the water. When dehumidifying a lot of moisture in Dry mode, excess water may collect in the internal collection tank. Once the tank is full, the air conditioner will automatically turn off to avoid overflow damage. You can also use the included continuous drain hose as a no-fuss way to eliminate excess water as needed. An adjustable thermostat provides additional convenience by allowing you to set your room temperature. The DeLonghi portable AC will cycle on and off to eliminate over-cooling and maintain the set temperature. Additional Features Washable Air Filter: A washable air filter helps remove allergens and other particles from incoming air and saves you money on replacement filters. Quiet Operation: High efficiency compressor and components result in quiet performance. Electronic Controls: The LCD screen displays the timer and temperature settings, while intuitive indicator lights accompany each operating mode. 24-Hour Timer: This feature lets you program your AC to turn on or off up to 24 hours in advance, so it only runs when needed. Window Bracket: Double window bracket is included with purchase for flexible installation. Self-Diagnosis System: The unit includes a self-diagnostic maintenance system that identifies malfunctions should they occur. Remote Control: Use the full-featured remote control to change modes, set the timer, and select a fan speed up to 23 feet away from the receiver (on the front of the unit). Portability: Easy-roll casters and dual carrying handles make it simple to move this model from space to space.

My GE 50 pt humidifier works great - except it will not let me set the fan speed to low or medium - it runs on high all the time. I am SUPPOSED to be able to set fan to low.... HELP IT"S TOO LOUD ON...

It sounds to me like you have a defective switch. I would recommend that you contact a G.E. dealer with the model and serial number and describe your problem.I can't find the right file right now but I believe thatthis switch is about twenty dollars.Thank you.

A/C FAN ONLY OPERATES IN LOW SPEED

It is either the switch,or the motor ,the motor is designed to have the speeds in it it self, but check the voltage on high, from the switch to the motor,if there is voltage, the motor is the problem.

High speed setting of fan does not work

If your motor only works on low speed and not on high speed first check to see if you have the proper voltage to high speed. Check with a voltmeter or multimeter, check from common on the motor to high speed on the motor at the switch. If you have the proper voltage then you have an open winding on high speed and the motor needs replaced. If you don’t have the proper voltage or any volts, then the switch is bad and needs replaced. This also will be the same if, medium speed won’t work and low speed does.

I have a hunter ceiling fan its about 20 years old. my problem is the remote will not work the fan. when i have the fan set on high speed the remote will only work the high and when i set the the fan on...

I'm sure you put fresh batteries in the remote...right? Most of the time you can correct remote problems by carefully taking the remote apart and cleaning all the contact points with a pencil eraser.

Just bought 12,000 BTU unit from Lowes. It worked

you have to balance the adjustment of fan speed and the amount of coolness you set the unit for. Either increase the fan speed or lower the coldness setting.

Hunter fan with remote control was 3 speed, now only 2 speed

It sounds like fan motor is okay. There are two motor windings -- one low speed, one medium speed. Low winding gives you low speed, medium winding gives you medium speed, both windings give you high speed -- so I would say if you get high speed, both windings are good.

The remote (the hand held transmitter) controls the speed by raising and lowering the frequency of the current which is 60 cycle coming to the fan ceiling box. If the fan speed -selector switch (usually a pull switch) is set to high, when the remote (transmitter) signals the receiver to change speeds, the frequency of the current is changed by the receiver (the receiver is usually in the fan housing).

Sounds like you'll need to replace the remote system -- these come in sets, both transmitter and receiver, and cost about $30. If you're not experienced with wiring fans, you should get an electrician to do the job.

Casablanca fan speed problem

If this fan has a pullchain that also controls the fan speed, and you have a remote, the pullchain has to be set for the highest speed. If it is set at medium or low, it will mess with the remote operation. Note: usually high speed is the first pull after the "off" position.

3 speed Hunter Fan only has 2 speeds

Assuming that the unit was wired properly from the factory and without being able to look at the switch I would have to agree that the switch is bad. The different speeds are obtained by having a different winding for each speed. If the unit was wired properly at the factory and never had three different speeds then the switch is not rotating between all the contacts. The switch should only be a couple of dollars and would certainly be a cheap solution to try. You can check the existing switch by removing it from the circuit completely and checking the continuity with a DMM from the input to each output as you switch it. Continuity should move from one to two to three. If not the switch is bad. If the switch checks out OK then you have a bad winding in the fan and probably need a new unit. Good luck.
