Be sure to set front speakers to "small" on the receiver menu.
Try inputing from one of the tape outputs to the sub this should give you audio if the sub is working properly. Start with the volume on the sub at it's lowest point and slowly increase the volume. If still no audio problem is most likley in the sub.

It only drives a self-powerd sub.

The manual...

Setting the Subwoofer Information

Register whether you have connected a subwoofer or not.

Before you start, remember....

• There is a time limit in doing the following steps. If the setting is canceled before you finish, start from step 1 again.

On the front panel ONLY:

1. Press SETTING repeatedly until "SUBWOOFER" appears on the display.

The display changes to show the current setting.

2. Press CONTROL UP / DOWN to select "YES" or "NO."

• Each time you press the button, the display alternates between "YES" and "NO."

YES: Select this when a subwoofer is connected.

NO: Select this when no subwoofer is used.

Note:

You cannot use SUBWOOFER OUT ON/OFF on the front panel (see page 14) and adjust the subwoofer output level (see below) when "SUBWOOFER" is set to "NO."

Then continue with setting its relative level and other things.

Why would my sub woofer just stop working on my norcent 1950

There could be several reasons why your subwoofer has stopped working on your Norcent 1950 audio system. Here are a few potential causes:
  1. Power issue: Check if the subwoofer is receiving power. Ensure that it is properly plugged into a working power outlet and that any power switches or buttons on the subwoofer are turned on.
  2. Connectivity issue: Verify that the subwoofer is properly connected to the audio system. Ensure that the cables are securely plugged into the correct audio outputs on the Norcent 1950 receiver or amplifier.
  3. Settings and controls: Check the audio settings on your Norcent 1950 system to ensure that the subwoofer output is enabled and properly adjusted. It's possible that the subwoofer level may have been inadvertently lowered or muted.
  4. Defective subwoofer: If none of the above solutions resolve the issue, it's possible that the subwoofer itself may be defective. In this case, you may need to contact Norcent customer support or bring the subwoofer to a professional technician for further diagnosis and repair.

THERE IS NO SIGNAL COMING FROM THE SUBWOOFER, IT IS CONNECTED TO A SONY AMPLIFIER IN THE SUBWOOFER JACK, AND CONNECTED TO THE SUBWOOFER IN THE LOW LEVEL INPUT. THE SUBWOOFER IS CONNECTED TO THE MAIN, AND...

With everything connected correctly there could be a couple of possible problems:

1. If your receiver has on screen display capabilities, you may need to turn the subwoofer output "on"
2. If your subwoofer has speaker wire inputs/outputs, you could run speaker wire to it, then to your speakers & test if the subwoofer is working... hence verifying that the receiver has a function to turn the subwoofer output on/off
3. The cable between the subwoofer & receiver could be bad. Try another cable.

Good luck!

I am trying to hook up a powered sub woofer to a yamaha rx-v461 and i dont know what cables go where on the back of the sub there are two speaker ports and there are two plug ins but each speaker port has...

Your subwoofer probably has both high-power inputs and "normal"low inputs. The first are for receivers, which don't have link-level output for sub, so they are able to take already amplified signal as input.
You need to use link-level input of your sub and connect it to subwoofer-output of your receiver. The output is marked as OUTPUT - Subwoofer and is black-color RCA plug (don't confuse with subwoofer INPUT under MULTI CH INPUT).
Receiver has only mono output for subwoofer. If your sub has stereo input (white/red RCA plugs), connect just the left channel to the receiver, it will still work.
Don't connect anything to the speaker output on the sub, you don't need that.

Subwoofer outputs not functioning

Have a good look at your set up in regards to volume output to each channels .
you may have only one channel working due to volume turn down or a faulty connection from the console head unit .
After going through all these , i would suggest to get your sub amp checked as you may have a faulty amp .

HOW DO I PLUG UP THE SUBWOOFER TO AMPLIFIER

On the back of the amp, there should be a jack with the name "SUBWOOFER PRE OUT". It is a standard RCA jack, but it only puts out a line output, meaning only self-powered subwoofers will work with it. Usually, if the subwoofer does not have an amp, it will have 2 imputs and 2 outputs. You plug the two left and right inputs into the front speaker jack on the amp, and then plug the front speakers into the left and right amp on the subwoofer.

Speaker wire for subwoofer

Usually, a subwoofer will have its own built-in power amplifier. Thus, it will be designed to plug into a standard RCA jack (the type used for DVD players, etc). rather than having wires to connect to a speaker terminal block. Look for a jack on the back of the receiver called "Subwoofer", or simply "SW". If your subwoofer has 2 single wires, it WON'T work with your reveiver's subwoofer output, as this output only carries a line-level signal and is not amplified. You would need a separate power amplifier for this type of SW. If your SW speaker has a DVD-type plug, it should work fine with the receiver's SW output jack.

Subwoofer connection

if this is ao powered sub, that plugs into the wall, there should be no problems, if it is powered solely by the reciever it may work fine but be sure you dont exceed amperage on the subwoofer.
