1. My kindle keeps freezing. 2. When not frozen, it frequently reboots. I've tried the restart as recommended and this was helpful for a few days. Now, my kindle is completely frozen (no light on, recharging does nothing). Help, I have owned the kindle for only a few months and am totally frustrated!!!!

How to reset the Amazon Kindle (useful when the unit is frozen)

Hi.

The Amazon Kindle is known for having several firmware issues, and it is not unusual seeing the unit freezing and not starting.

To start you can attempt doing a soft reset. To do a soft reset press and hold the <ALT>, <Shift>, and <R> keys simultaneously. The Kindle display should go blank for few seconds, and then restart.

If your Amazon kindle is still frozen, try resetting the unit to factory default settings with the hard reset procedure below. Procedure is different, depending on the Kindle model.

All you have to do to reset the Amazon Kindle 2 and Kindle DX is pressing and holding down the power button for about twenty seconds, then release the button and let the unit restart.

If instead you have the previous model, the amazon Kindle one, then you will need to open the back cover by pressing it and sliding it to the right with your finger, same as when you have to replace the batteries.

Behind the cover you will see the reset hole switch.

Push and hold a sharp pointed object, like a paper clip, or the tip of a pencil inside the hole button located under the battery cover.

Wait about ten seconds until the Kindle restarts and resets to default settings.

The last procedure and the picture below refer to Kindle one only. If you have kindle two, then please use the first procedure.

If the above does not fix the problem, then the unit is faulty. In that case contact Amazon to get support.

Regards.

HOW DO I UNDER FREZZER MY KINDLE

Hold the power switch for 20 seconds. Slide the power switch and hold it in place for 20 to 30 seconds before releasing it.
  • You need to physically hold the power switch in its off position for this long. Doing so tells your device to "reboot," in essence, instead of merely shutting down.
  • The reboot screen should appear as soon as you release the power switch.

Give the Kindle time to reboot. The Kindle will reboot within a minute or two. Be patient and give your device ample time to finish its reset.
  • There is some possibility that the Kindle will freeze as it reboots. This may be the case if your Kindle stays frozen on the reboot screen for more than ten minutes.
Charge the Kindle. If the device freezes during the reboot or does not respond to the reset at all, plug the charger in and allow your Kindle to charge for 30 minutes or more.
  • Make sure that your Kindle has enough time to complete a full charge.

Hold the power switch down again. After you finish charging the Kindle, slide the power switch and hold it down for another 20 seconds.
  • The reboot screen should appear again. Give the device a minute or two to reboot before checking it again. This should complete the reset.

My kindle keeps freezing

In most cases, to avoid freezing, keep battery charged and turn off wireless when it's not being used. To properly reset, hold power switch to the right for 15 seconds.

Resetting the device is not a bad thing, most electronic devices need it to be done. It can be annoying, but it's not fatal.

I would keep track of how many times you need to reset the device. Once the amount get over a few times per day, honestly, I would call Kindle Support. They've got the necessary software to look further into your Kindle.
