I've had my Acer 1916W for 2 years and it worked great until all of a sudden the screen went completely gray. No color no picture..nothing. It was ok until I started up a game to play and the last thing that flashed on the screen was that it was the first time the game had been started and the computer needed to check the settings and then blank...the screen went grey. restarting didn't help and it definitely wasn't the graphic card. I bought a new monitor and it works great but I would still like to fix the other one if it is fixable.

Ha ha, no it was something very simple. My technician rang the company as it was under warranty and they had never heard of it but worked it out and just pressed a few buttons on the monitor and it was gone!! Thanks, anyway for the laugh.

Hello Ching. I have an acer AL1917W LCD monitor, and my problem is the same. When I turned on the monitor for the frist time on the day, it seems to work ok for about 2 or 3 minutes, then it goes black and the power button goes from green to yellow and then green again, and the acer logo appears just the same way as when I turned on the monitor for the first time. And this continues in a cyclic way. Then, the power button goes from green to off, then yellow, then off, and so on, and the acer logo continues appearing and dissapearing the same way.
I have read about some faulty capacitors inside and I think I can remove them and check them with a universal bridge (I have one HP) but my main problem right now is how to remove the back cover. There are not visible screws and the only thing I can see is a hole with a padlock drawed near this hole. I think is through this hole that the cover can be removed.
Any one knows how to remove this cover? Will I need some sort of specific tool to do that? Please, I need your help.
Thanks.
Ismael.

Hello,
This usually indicates a bad power supply, a common problem with LCD monitors about 2-3 years old. If you can solder you should be able to do the repair and get it back going. Go to our web site at: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm check out the pictures of what to look for. Open your monitor and replace all of the bad capacitors on the power supply and your should have a working monitor. Be sure to install the replacement caps with the polarity stripe going the same way the bad ones come out. The values you need will be printed on the sides of the bad ones, usually values like 220uf, 470uf, 1000uf. You will need to use high temp replacements, they will be marked 105c. The parts can be ordered from several places on the internet including our site. Total parts cost should run less than $15.00 including shipping. If you don't want to do the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus return shipping. If you have any questions just contact me at our web site.
I hope this helps, If so please rate our solution.
