I have an HP Offijet 6310 All-In-One. It constantly quits printing, with the only solution to be to un-install and reinstall. Occasionally unplugging the USB cable will help, but not usually. Every time I go to print, I have to un-install and reinstall. The software CD that came with the printer is for Windows XP and will not work on my computer - an HP Pavilion Media Center PC m8100e. HP tech support instructs me to download the installation from the web site. I do this, but it always asks me for the CD, which of course, I don't have. Since this problem keeps occurring constantly, I fell that the install from the web site is missing something. I suspect that this printer is not compatible with Vista. Why else would it keep malfunctioning? I've had it for one year - bought the computer & printer together from HP. Their sales people advised me to get this printer - the Officejet 6310 - with the PC I was purchasing.
I have Vista Ultiate, which of course came pre-installed with my new HP PC.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a remedy to this situation? I feel HP should update their software to be compatible with Vista, or they shouldn't have suggested this printer to go with Vista one their PC.
Thank you for any help you can give me for this enormously frustating situation. ~Rita
SOURCE: Can't install HP Photosmart c4280
I just went through a similar situation as both of you guys with the C4280. The problem started when I used System Recovery and reset my pc to factory standards. While reinstalling all my old programs and devices I left the User Account Control on (had it turned it off before the Recovery) and didn't think anything when I allowed the program to install because the software screen said to just allow it. I did but when it came time to connect the device via usb it got to step 6 then pretty much stopped. After that I tried a bunch of different things that kept me up forever eventually downloading 2 things. One was some kind of hpudatesvr.exe that also needed permission to run and the other was Lemmor's driver package that was suggested. Once the exe was up and running it kind of disappeared and always ran at startup, no help at all. Pretty much the same for the driver package, but it did give one detail that the installation cd didn't. It says specifically to turn off User Account Controls and other anti-virus software as they have been known to cause installation failure. I did all those things the next time and it still didn't work because this time the damn hpupdatesvr.exe was killing the program in the same place somehow. Since I didn't know where it was or how to kill it and I only had 3 programs on my computer I just recovered again and did another install with all User Account Controls off. Works fine now.

hi,
you can try this workaround.. most of the printing issues can be solve by doing the following steps.:
1. download the Printing diagnostic utility
2. install it, and run it.
3. when its open, click on DIAGNOS, it will give you several errors why you cant print.
4. after doing that step, click on FIX. it will automatically fix the issue.
5. after that, it will give you all green checkmarks. then try to print something.
below is the link where you can download the file "printing diagnostic utility"

SOURCE: Cannot print with wirelessly networked printer
hi,
if printing from 2 other computer works fine, will i think its not an issue of IP address which changes somehow. but anyways, try to check if you still have other printer drivers under "PRINTERS" (see control panel). it should say HP Photosmart c6100 series. If you also have there a printer icon that says HP Photosmart c6100 series Copy1, try using it (right click on that icon and choose Set as Default Printer). If you only have HP Photosmart c6100 series under PRINTERS, try to right click, then choose properties. When Properties box is open, click on PORTS tab. then click on configure ports below. Try to type in the IP address of the printer under "Printer Name or Host name or IP address". make sure that you already printed network configuration page to get the exact ip address of the printer, Dont know how to print? do this.
PRINTING NETWORK CONFIGURATION PAGE
1. press setup, then scroll down and look for Network.
2. press okay on network, it will give you the first option "VIew network settings".
3. press okay on it, and it will give you the first option "Print network configuration page."
4. choose that and press okay. it will print the network config page. from this document, you will be able to see the IP address of the printer.
Please let me know if the issue is still not resolve so that i can go ahead and give you another possible solution.
Thank you so much.

Try a complete uninstall:
Unplug the USB cable from your PC.
Go to Control panel add or remove programs. and delete all the entries you see for HP.( If it promts a restart do not restart now)
Then open my computer> C:drive> Program files> and delete the HP Folder only (not Hewlett Packard)
Then Open C:drive> Program files> Common Files and then delete HP and Hewlett Packard folder.
Then Go to C:Drive> Windows> Temp and empty the temp folder as much as you can.
Then go to Recycle bin and empty recycle bin.
Then Insert the All-In-One CD and cancel the installation process.
Open the content of the CD> and open Util folder> Then CCC> Then click on Uninstall_L4 and follow the on screen process.
After all restart the computer.
And if possible download the latest printer driver from HP website and install the same
Let me Know if any problem
Good Luck
