1. Try to change the tape speed on your machine. Sometimes that will fix it.

2. Maybe the tape is just old (has been dictated on too many times) and in that case, have the person dictate on new tapes and discard the old ones. They dont last forever.

Hope I could help!

I have a new Sony Microcassette Transcriber M-2000 and cannot figure out how to ERASE a tape that I've transcribed. The Operating Instructions don't mention that feature, either. Can you help me?

Hello sorry the M-2000 don't have the ERASE feature but your only option is to get a tape eraser you can get one at http://www.tvps.com/Products/ECS-ME20-Mini--Micro-Cassette-Eraser---New__VE-ME-20.aspx just think positive your unit will last longer the eraser prolong the life of units just pass the microcassete once on the eraser and is done full erase :)

My Panasonic RR-930 transcriber speeds up and slows down as I play back tapes. The problem seems to be with the machine itself and not the foot pedal or the tapes. Where do I start?

Start by cleaning the capstan roller. The rubber roller and small steel rod just above it, control the tape speed. Just a little lint, build up or animal hair wrapped around this can cause the speed to vary. Clean with alcohol and a Q-tip.

Tape Counter

Thank you.  The machine has a reset button that brings the counter back to zero. Still not sure it is working right but I'll see as I transcribe my tapes.

If there is no sound on a channel, and you know the recording is there, then you either have a bad head or a broken wire at the tape head.
