My sister just called--her Compaq computer crashed for the third time in two years. Sh wants to know if there are recurring problems with the AMD Athlon 64 3500 processor with 512 MB, 200G hard drive?

this PC is old and all are slow, that is there "THING" back then.
the HDD is slowest, run SSD and its way faster.
this PC can be as as old as 17 years old, has zero value. now.
made from 2000 to 2004

it has processor AMD Sempron 3000+ / 2 GHz
256mb memory.
tiny old hdd.
sounds to me, repeat 1 year ago and avoid linux.
Btw new linux dont run right on old PC, only OLD linux does.
just like W10 will not run on this PC. ever.

this is what had happened to my hp comp. All i did is upgrade the ram, problem solved.

See if you can get into safe mode. If you can't then your system files are corrupted and you'll have to restore your computer back to factory defaults.

I believe on your compaq presario they have a built in factory restore and its either accessed by the F10 or F11 key when you first turn on the computer. You'll know when you first turn on the computer at the compaq logo screen.

It sounds like you need to update the driver for the drive. check the manufacturer website for a new driver.

I am sorry to say but there is no suggestion we can give on this topic. The problem with your computer is that the operating system you were using has crashed. You need to install a fresh copy of operating system on your PC.

Try a different document - save it under a new name and edit away.

If the problem does not recur, the other document was corrupted.

I save often under different file names because my work computer is not stable.
