Looks like you have the right kind...they have to match you know...you could try 2/1g sticks instead...

Your compatible memory is here: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/ASUS/p5gpl-x

SOURCE: MOTHERBOARD SOUTHBRIDGE CHIPSET PROBLEM

You can add a heat sink to the Southbridge chip as listed at this link:
http://www.frozencpu.com/cat/l2/g33/c173/list/p1/Ultra_Quiet-Chipset_Coolers.html
Microcool Chipsink Southbridge Passive Heatsink
The word passive means no need for screws or clamps. A special teflon tape sticks to the chipset. If you feel this may not be enough you can always add a side case fan that will direct air flow right on the Southbridge chip & also feed fresh air to the whole board. http://www.xoxide.com/80mmfans.html There are tons of cooling here & more passive coolers as well for both Northbridge & Southbridge.
I'm sure this will make a difference.

SOURCE: max. video card or controler

Get the AGP card with the most memory you can get.AGP is a pretty old architecture. You may need to hunt one up on ebay. Might try Newegg.com

Info from the manual:

Memory configurations

You can install 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1GB DDR SDRAM DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

• Install only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs

using the recommended configurations.

• Make sure that the memory frequency matches the CPU FSB

(Front Side Bus). Refer to the Memory frequency/CPU FSB

synchronization table on the next page.

• This motherboard does not support double-sided 16-bit DDR DIMMs.

• Do not create a three-DIMM configuration in dual-channel mode. The
third DIMM is ignored in the dual-channel operation.

hi

your motherboard supports following RAM only

Note: PC2100/PC1600 up to 3 DIMMs; PC3200/PC2700 up to 2 DIMMs; 1GB PC3200/2700 with 32 DDR chips up to 1 DIMM only)

RAM compatibility HELP

Yes this pc3200 is hardly compatible, because your motherboard is supportable of DDR 1 type RAM, Hence th PC3200 = 400 MHz, so you can add this ram to your PC, such that the ram which is between 266mhz to 400 MHz is absolutely a DDR1 type . please dont forget to vote for me.

Would A 1GB PC3200 run in the K7s5a alone.

According to the specs the max amount of ram is 1 GB and max speed is pc2100 so a pc3200 would not run on it unless the board was able to clock the speed down of that single stick of ram.

I was not able to find the max amount of ram per slot on a quick search but most likely it would be 512 mb per slot for a max of 1 GB between the two DDR slots.

at Newegg you can find DDR 266 1 GB kits (2 x 512mb) which would get you the 1 GB of ram.

I have installed 1 GB + 512 MB DDR II RAM, but it read only 1G I have just bought the Corsair 1GB RAM (DDR II 667 MHz, 6400), and installed it in the slot 1 of my motherboard, but it only read as 512 MB. (...

Nowadays, motherboards supports only a selected number of RAMs. You have to read the manual and select from the given models. I am not talking about DDR2 or 667MHz. The manual will state the manufacturer (ex. Kingston) model no (KVR667XXXXXX) etc. Only those stated in the manual will work correctly with your motherboard.

Want to add memory to Gateway 700x

Upgrading RAM on your Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer is easy, Gateway 700X (DDR) Computer takes the PC3200 DDR SDRAM DIMMs. Supports Dual Channel DDR. RAM Type, and comes installed with 512 MB (removable) of RAM.
