I am unable to scan from my 5788 or my 5180 to my hp pavilion lap top. The 5788 window says "no scan options" in the printer window. I have the printer connected directly to a USB port, I have rebooted bot...

You need to have the HP scan software running on your computer before you press scan, the scan options are in the scanning software and the scanner needs to know where to send the image, how to scan, and what type of image you're scanning.

Can one scan and send from the J5780

It has to be an option you received with your scanner..not all scanners are equal. If you can find the documentation on the manufacturers website it will tell you if you have this feature..good luck...

Scanner won't work

Hi,
The all in one solution software you used in XP doesn't work fully with Vista.

But you can still scan and copy by using Windows Photo Gallery.

1. Click on files tab at the top in Window Photo Gallery.
2. Click on import from camera or scanner.
3. Highlight your scanner icon (ie HP J5780) then click import.
4. New scan window will popup, now you can preview or scan using this basic looking Vista utility.

Hope that helps.
