I have a high def panasonic dlp. The screen is split up of several different sections of the screen but in the wrong order. Like the bottom few inches is in the middle of the screen and the middle is on the top and so forth.

Hello!
looks, like you having a problem with DMD module. It's the main part of light engine. That's where you want to look first. Quite possible, that DM could be at fault, as well. DMD is most expensive part, DM(digital module) is not that bad. That one deliver signal to DMD, light engine processor. due to high temperature inside of those little things, fauly surface mount electrolytic capacitors are to look for. It requires very high technician skills and couldn't be performed at home. I'd recommend to start looking for DM, first. E-bay, used parts distributors, etc. You could replace it with caution. Make sure not to break any ribbon cables or connectors, if you decide to do it yourself. Especially, when you pry covers to open, In many cases, ribbon or regular connector's cables(boards to control panel) could be very short. If you take top cabinet off rapidly, those could brake off. Anyway, I'd rather take it to reputable repair shop.Especially, with this kind of problem.
Good luck with your project,
Alex. c/o Alex's Television, Philadelphia PA.

Picture problem on panasonic Vierra plasma tv

It looks like you are saying standard definition pictures do not cover the screen like HD pictures do. Standard def is formatted 4:3 and high def is 16:9. They are not the same so your high def screen is made to display the not as tall but wider high def picture. In order to fill the screen with the taller and not as wide 4:3 aspect ratio std def picture you must tell the TV to stretch the picture or otherwise fill the screen. The TV will have controls you can exercise for this purpose and you can set it up to always show std def in a particular manner. The alternative, if you want the standard Def picture to look true to form, is to view standard def in Letter Box form. It's appearance will then include black panels on the sides of the picture. So the problem is not with the TV but in accepting older format pictures playing on newer format displays (TVs.)

The tv has power , the volume comes on ,but no picture, just black screen. The red change lamp light has been on for some time, and it is still on

I believe this is a DLP set. There is a single high power bulb that shines thru the dlp chip and onto the screen. My old Panasonic 55" (forget the model) had the bulb access on the front left side-1 phillips screw to remoce the door and another to pull the light assembly. Replacement bulbs are available plain or in the assembly-your choice. Just google your make and model plus DLP bulb and you should be good to go- I paid $85 for the bulb alone- order 2 as the life span is much shorter than what panasonic claims- there was even a class action lawsuit over this issue that covered about 10 different set.

How do I reset the lamp timer on my panasonic dlp tv?

Most Panasonic lamp driven TV's use either the PIP or SPLIT button on the remote control pressed simultaneously with the VOLUME down on the TV. These two buttons must be held in that position for more than 6 seconds then a box should appear on the screen letting you know the timer was reset to zero. The instructions usually come with the lamp as they are not in the owners manual. Please take a few moments to rate my answer. Thanks....

Split screen

Yes I get the same problem with my Sony XBR and its Pace PVR.
The problem seems related to using HDMI interconnects; viewing the PVR through component leads allows the TV to switch modes easily, otherwise I have to turn the tv off and then back on again.

High Definition Channels leave bar on top and bottom

More then likely it has to do with the aspect ratio of what you're trying to watch. Most DVD's are in widescreen format (2.40 to 1) like you would see in a theater but an HD tv is a 16 by 9 format or 1.85 to 1. Look at the DVD case and see. Also some HD shows are in widescreen so you'll get the same thing. You're only option to fill the screen is get movies in 1.85 to 1 or use your zoom functions however these do tend to distort the picture.
