Hi.

You need to cascade the Dlink wireless router to your RV042.

Suppose your RV042 has a default IP Address of 192.168.1.1, and the DLINK IP uses 192.168.0.1. Your Physical connection is from the regular port of the RV042 going to the WAN/Internet Port of the DLink wireless router.

Once you do that, your Dlink router should automatically obtain an IP from the main router. If it did, configure your wireless settings and you should be able to connect via wireless.

This is just one way to cascade your router to another router.

Dlink router is not connecting to the internet

Check the lights on the router to make sure both out going and incoming are on.

Manual link below in case that helps

ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/di_broadband_gateways/di-524/di-524_manual.pdf

If not both on contact broadband supplier as IP for router may have been "altered" and will need resetting their end.

Not unknown for an outage to be proceeded by a "spike" which can blow unprotected items.

Dlink wireless router, shows up, can't connect

the manual can be downloaded from the dlink website;
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/di_broadband_gateways/di-524/di-524_manual.pdf

you are also able to get a couple of utilities from the dlink website; it's a very long link but this is the location for the relevent files.

http://www.dlink.co.uk/?go=jN7uAYLx/oIJaWVdDbgYU93ygJVYLelXSNvhLPG3yV3oVYx+g6ltbNlwaaRp7jksED2onGQTo48EE5+3n/K9K0MH8LubPtqzEMT8pnRbyctCCrpHKcCVuErk6TGEOcGXYPgp/FUnrIBfqygTYYTwlmHkgyBavmKsERo=

the formatting is messed up but just copy and paste into you web browser.

Problem regarding firewell

If it is a brand new unit, the default confiration should work for most Cable and DSL providers. If you use DSL and need to setup a PPPoE login and password, you just need to point your browser to http://1292.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 this would all depend on the make and model of your router.

You can also reference the manufactorer's support page to find the owners manual and resetting and confiruation help. The owners manual will also discuss the firewall, port forwarding, universal plug and play (UPnP), and more.

Linksys: http://www.linksys.com/
D-Link: http://www.dlink.com/
Netgear: http://www.netgear.com/
Belkin: http://www.belkin.com/
Cisco: http://www.cisco.com/

For a D-Link AirPlus DI-524, look at the bottom of your router and locate the revision. Then visit http://support.dlink.com/downloads/ and select DI then 524 and choose the revision. That website will show pictures and show you where to find the revision. From there you can download the manual.

With the question being vague, all you need to set it up is a cable or dsl modem with an ethernet cable running to the WAN port of the router. From there, you need another ethernet cable running to another computer OR if it wireless, connect to the wireless SSID (network name). You may need to configure the router for the SSID.

Hope this helps!

Have D-link 704 router, can I connect the DI-524 to it also to add wireless?

Hi, I have not tried it myself with DLink but with LinkSys, yes it will work. It may take a little configuration tinkering but should work. However a few notes: 1. You should only have 1 DHCP server (both have this feature); 2. You can not have 2 identical IP address; 3. I suggest you make the 524 as the gateway and the 704 as a slave; 4. In effect you will connect 1 of the LAN port of the 524 to the WAN input of the 704; 5. You have to copy the WAN settings of the 704 to the WAN settings of the 524; 6. Or if you want to retain the 704 as the gateway, disable the identical features in the 524. I suggest you treat the 524 as a client of the 704. Hope this gives you some idea and work out for you as it did with my LinkSys. Goodluck and kind regards.
