I did a system image backup onto my Qmemory USB 2.0 external hard drive. I am trying to restore my computer from this system image backup and windows vista business does not recognize it. Windows seems to want a driver for it. Do you have an updated driver for it? All the backup files seem to be there but windows does not seem to recognize them! HELP!

If you are using Vista, I seriously doubt it will allow you to use the image. Normally any Windows program will not allow you to do something like that from within windows. The system image backup is meant to restore the image, which means completely copying and overwriting everything on the hard drive - which Windows will not allow while in use. If you boot from the Vista setup disk, then you should be able to restore the disk from there.

SOURCE: Hard drive

when you change a hard drive from one PC to another you have to do a fresh install. The problem is caused with the registry. In other words, the hard drive remembers where is was conntected to and records all of the hardware on your PC to a sepecial datebase called a registry, when you start it up it looks for all of that hardware and if its not there it fails to boot.

SOURCE: Laptop Won't Recognize External HD

You can try opening the device manager in Window XP and uninstall the external hard disk (make sure you show unplugged devices).
Then replug the drive again, and it should reinstall the drivers.

Dell inspiron mini screen says "bootmgr is missing

You need to reboot the computer using the disk you made from Windows Backup and Restore. Watch your boot screen and look for "boot opions or boot order (words to that effect).

If always super important to create a Windows Startup Disk/Repair disk as soon as you power on your computer and go through the initial setup.

The next most important task is to create recovery disks. The ultimate task for any laptop or desktop computer is to create a system image backup onto an External Hard Drive. Why? Whenever you get infected or experience a major problem you are copy the system image back to your main drive and everything is in the state it was when you made the backup.

Files should be backed up on regular basis and having an External Hard dDrive always plugged into a USB port makes this a very simple task.

How to do system recovery on aspire one

Hi you should be able to do the following, if not you will need an external CD drive & recovery disk.

1. Consider what data you still need from your Acer Aspire One's hard drive. Save the files to an external USB device.

2. Restart the Acer Aspire One's operating system. Wait for the Acer logo to appear on the LCD screen.

3. Press the "Alt" and "F10" keys at the same time to bring up the recovery menu. Press "Enter."

4. Click "Next." Follow the prompts that appear on the screen to restore the operating system back to factory settings.

5. Use the drop-down boxes to select the time zone and language information for your Acer Aspire One. Restart the netbook when you are prompted to finish restoring the computer.

6. Connect the external USB device to your Acer Aspire One and transfer the data you saved earlier back to the netbook.

Warning:
It is possible to delete the hard drive partition that has the recovery tool.

If your Acer Aspire One no longer has the recovery partition, you will need
to acquire an external USB DVD drive and then contact Acer for a recovery DVD.
Connect the USB drive to the netbook's USB port and then insert the recovery DVD in the drive.

Hope this helps.

Mine will work on my desktop but not my notebook

This is usually a corrupt USB driver for the device. On the machine that has trouble recognizing the drive:
right click my computer
click on properties
click on device manager
find the USB devices, click the plus sign to expand the tree.
Plug in your drive, see which new device appears, if it has the exclamation point, then right click on the device and click uninstall. Reboot the system.
