My Sunbeam electric blanket controls blink when I plug the control cable into the blanket. I cannot turn the controls on or off.

Same problem. When I turn either of the dual controls on any heat setting, within seconds it starts blinking, quits heating, and all control is lost at that point including turning it back off or changing the heat. The only solution I've found is unplug it, but as soon as you plug it back in and turn the blanket back on, same thing all over again. I've checked plugs, cables and all I see that could be checked. Nothing helps.

same problem.Control lights blink and blanket does not work anymore.Only used it for a month.

    Happens to me too.

  • doane77 Jan 18, 2009

I am having the same problem with a Sunbeam blanket. It it a single control fill size. The control is blinking on and off and will not respond. I tried the suggested hatd boot routine of unplugging from the main, unplugging the blanket from the line, re attaching and then re plugging into the main (wall outlet) Control seems to be restored.

  • beefguy Feb 24, 2009

Mine just started blinking too. I have dual control. We checked everything we could check. We unplugged it from the wall and it didn't help. We couldn't figure out how to unplug it from the blanket. We have had it for only 3 months. We are just not using the side that blinks. Are you still using yours?

  • microb4 Mar 01, 2009

Same problem. Dual control - one side works, other side blinks and does not heat. Have only been using it about a month. Way to go Sunbeam.

  • RLG SS May 11, 2010

I have a fix for your electric blankets, the problem is it is not fully plugged in at the foot of the blanket. You must engage the plug past the point where it connects and snaps together. If it still does not work you might have to modify the plug. Just save off a little on the bottom so it will side further in and then you will have a good connection. It worked for me hopefully it will work for you.

i had the same problem. we washed our heated blanket and hung it up to air dry. once it was dry we tried plugging it in, and the light on the controls just kept blinking on the highest setting. i tried everything to get it working again, i checked the connection on the module, i unplugged and plugged it back in at the wall plug-in. i couldnt get it working even i clearly followed the washing instructions according to the label correctly. Eventually i got so frustrated with it that i just gave up, unplugged it and walked away. However a little later i decided to go back and check it again, just in case, and all of the sudden it starts working again! It was a pain but im glad it started working again at least.

It sounds like there is a wire in the heating coils that is weak or broken, if it's a broken wire, it's junk, you can't cut them open and re-splice them, and that's what your problem sounds like, a broken heating coil.

None of these troubleshoots work. I tried all of them. I'm really angry and disappointed. I need the heat because it helps with RA pain. now I won't be able to sleep comfortably. it is a washable blanket. I followed the instructions. make a better, sturdier product, Sunbeam.

  • m sami Apr 15, 2023

It sounds like you are having trouble with your Sunbeam electric blanket controls. When you plug the control cable into the blanket, the controls blink but you are unable to turn them on or off. This may indicate a problem with the connection between the control cable and the blanket or a malfunction with the controls themselves. You may want to try unplugging the control cable and plugging it back in to see if that resolves the issue. If not, you may need to contact Sunbeam customer support for assistance or consider purchasing a replacement control.

Same problem, but now it is ok.  I emailed Sunbeam and was told that if my blanket was not plugged directly into a wall outlet it was not getting enough power and I needed to plug it into a wall outlet taking these steps:
1) Unplug from the surge protector/extension cord 2) Unplug from the blanket 3) Plug back into the blanket 4) Plug into a wall outlet

There cannot be a surge protector or plug extender on the same outlet as the blanket plug. Additionally, once you unplug the blanket plug you have to wait a full 5 minutes for the system to reset before plugging it back into the blanket. :).

I had the same problem and found that I needed to have the blanket attached to controller BEFORE plugging into wall outlet. Plugging in electric first started the blinking again.

In all honesty get a different blanket..my pad did the saem thing and I received a 2nd degree burn across my belt line.

Checek the internet, and you'll see how many suits have been filed against Sunbeam for the same things as far back as 2003.....might be worth getting rid of the blanket

I've had nothing but trouble with my electric blanket. One side doesn't work and now the other keeps blinking. I've tried the methods to stop it and nothing works. Extremely disappointed with this product. Never buying a sunbeam again.

  • Lee Sheridan Oct 06, 2019

I bought mine 1 week ago. Nothing but blinking lught. I cant seem to have it on anything more than 3 setting or light blinks snd blanket turns off. The shop is getting a replacement for me. After reading all this going to ask for refund. Antone know a decent electric blanket that works. Sonetimes its really cd and id like to have heat higher without it just switching off. Shop said it would be controller. This is ridiculous.

First, we had a Sunbeam that lasted 8-years - now we have boughtTHREE
different blankets (all Sunbeam) and could not get any of them to
work (permanently) Lights stay on, F-2 is on and unplugging and
starting over only lasted a few hour and we were back to the
same proglem - will try to find a different brand

Well for those who still get the blinking light on the controller, make sure the plug that goes into the blanket is pushed in....all the way! Then voila! No more blinking light.

I've tried for 2 days to do exactly as instructed at least 35 times. Sunbeam, smh, I'm so mad that I'm speechless, I'm just let one side flash. Use the good side for as long as it will last. Never purchase sunbeam for anything.

What I did was this.....
1. Unplug from the wall and from the bed spread.
2. Wait 30 seconds then plug into the wall but not the bed first.
3. Then plug into the bed correctly, there is a wrong way.
4. then on main controller hold the power on button for ten seconds then let off.
5. Then on second controller hold power button for ten seconds then let off.
6. That is a hard reset and now should work accordingly.

Tip.
Do not use a surge protector.
Do not use an extension cord.
Do not run cords in between box and main mattress. Instead run underneath the bed.
Do not allow cords to become pinched in any way.

Enjoy

  • Lee Sheridan Oct 06, 2019

Well if id known that i woumdnt have bought it. I dont have a wall socket i can plug directly into. Their cord is nowhere near long enough to reach. Most people use extension cords. Only lately have houses been built with more than 2 outlets in every room. I live in a house that is over 70 years old. One wall socket in each room so multibox and extension lead is tge only option available

Unplug at wall, reconnect shpould do it. It must have "read" between wall and blanket plug that interferes with be boot, so just kill power throughout entire line, restart good luck, works for me twice now.

Hi. You can locate a Sunbeam Service Centre via http://www.sunbeam.com.au/Pages/Support/Repairers.aspx

You're looking at $69,95 recommended retail.

BTW have you checked that it's not the blanket? Swap the controls over, if the problem follows the control it's the control. If the problem stays on the same side of the blanket, it's the blanket.

Also note Sunbeam has a 3 year warranty on electric blankets. If Date Of Purchase is less than 3 years ago call 1800025059 option 1 to speak to their Customer Service,
