KitchenAid Superba combination built-in oven (upper: microwave-convection; lower: conventional oven). Model KEMS376 TALO. Installed 12/89. The "blower" and main "power on" light (NOT the oven or meat lights) stay on unless I turn the circuit off. Started last night (1st time ever), in the middle of the night, when nothing was being used; discovered this AM and constant even since unless I turn off the circuit. All control-panel knobs & switches are "off", & nothing is "hot" to the touch. I haven't used the lower oven in ages. I used the microwave yesterday evening uneventfully (made rice; related?). I tested the microwave today, and it works fine. But I'm keeping the circuit off for now, unless I'm at home, in the kitchen, using the microwave.

I also thought it must be a failed relay. It's been going for 24 hours now. I'm not too worried about it because it is the blower fan for when the oven is on or the microwave is hot. But it's very annoying.

Ours started doing this same thing last week. I also thought it was a stuck relay. I haven't started taking it apart yet, so far, we just turn off the breaker for most of the day. It's rather annoying and I'm not sure if it's just time to replace it.

It sounds like a stuck relay or other controller problem.

I don't have the service data on this one, but there should be a schematic or tech sheet / mini-manual either on the back side, behind the controls, or somewhere else inside.

If you or someone you know can locate them and scan and e-mail or copy & fax them to me, I can probably give you further guidance.

Please feel free to contact me directly.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

What does convection cooking mean?

A convection oven cooks food with heat; much like a conventional oven. It is faster, though, as it circulates the air around inside the cavity.

So, it's faster than a conventional oven, but slower than a microwave oven.

Conventional ovens which also microwaved at the same time, have also been manufactured.
They were also faster than a conventional oven, but slower than a microwave. But they were not the same as a convection oven as they did not circulate the air.

Where can I find out the wattage of my Kitchenaid Superba 853879154001 Combination Microwave? It is not on the door sticker.

Sarah,
That model number is not coming up as a good number, but another model that I looked at said that particular model was a 900 watt microwave.

Can two separate convection units (microwave and oven) be combined/joined into one cord and plugged into one outlet and BOTH work efficiently? The contractors I hired combined all wires to both unit

You need to have the contractors return and troubleshoot the problem free since they told you they both worked when you purchased them. There's an implied warranty here. The two ovens should have been tested before the contractor left your house to prove they both worked together.
