Wifi connection looks in place but testing connection results in endless searching

Maybe your device is old and the wifi new or your device has failed. I would download a WiFi signal strength app from a reputable source and with a good reputation and see if any WiFi is detected on your device, go near the WiFi access point or router (at least in the same room). If that looks ok ie there is signal from the WIFi name you expect then look in the access point / router, usually done with a web browser, and look in wireless for a compatibility mode check box and tick it. This will lower your security as it will use older protocol but might help an older device connect. If it doesn't help go back and uncheck the box.
I hope this helps

My smart TV has home wifi but is intermittent. Router is in the next room. Tv can find Belkin but then my house wifi is unticked. Does it not work for a smart TV? Why does it switch off my wifi?

Your set may have a defective wi fi detection circuit that is causing all the grief. I had to return a laptop for this reason.
Maybe the signal is weak - try raising the router as high as possible off the floor and also try putting a deflector behind the router to direct the signals in the direction of tv set to maximize strength.

Sony ericsson w890 wifi not working

Check weather any other device can detect wifi signal of your modem router. If it cannot detect the signal then it may be the complaint of your modem roter wifi.
If the other device can detect wifi of your modem router then back up the data of your phone and reset it. It will work fine.
Thank you

MY LAPTOP DOES NOT CATCH ANY WIFI SIGNALS

methinks that you need to check these two items first

a. look for a physical switch along the sides of laptop(could be sure if the model number were here) and turn it on

b. open start/control panel and look for wireless icon click on that and ensure it's active

if that does not work then make sure you have one installed

start/control panel/system icon

opens panel go to device manager(should be upper left first option on list)

look for network adapters

see if wireless is listed

if it has a yellow ? mark then you need to right click to uninstall

go to top of that panel and scan for hardware changes

may need to restart computer after this segment is complete

Cant keep ipad2 connectd to netgear wnr1000 vs

Sounds like the Ipad is getting out of "readable" range of the WiFi signal. You might log into the router and change the channel to channel 1. If that does not work, try another channel. If no channels work, you will probably need a Wifi extender to get the signal upstairs and readable for the Ipad.

My Dir 615 is working very fine but up in one room the signal is very weak. How can I get it stronger? Thank you,

Hi - Wifi devices are very low power. Under optimal conditions, they can transmit up to 100 yards. Optimal conditions are basically an unobstructed "line of sight".

The number of and the more substantial the obstruction, they greater the impact is on the signal. An example is the devices (computer and the router) are separated by 40 feet and a single Sheet Rock or gypsum board and wooden wall; like you might find when a computer is being used in the back yard and the router is inside the house in a room next to the back yard. The signal should be relatively strong over this distance and this minimal obstruction material. Compare this to the same distance of 40 feet, but the wall is now brick or concrete, and there is a second wall like the first example - but it has a coating of aluminum; and there is a wooden floor; all between the computer and the router. That is an example is what you might find if the router were in a second floor room at a neighbor's house that has aluminum siding and the computer is in a basement of your house. The signal may be so degraded by aluminum, wood, concrete, soil and gypsum obstructions that the speed is very slow or isn't usable at all.

Now you've got an idea as to how the materials of the obstructions can wreak havoc on a wifi signal. There are also issues of interference. Most wifi "b", "g" and "n" signals operate on 2.4Ghz and and 5Ghz frequencies. These same frequencies are employed by other low power / unlicensed consumer devices - most notable are cordless telephones (not cell phones), microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices and baby monitors. If enough of these devices are in the area or between the router and computer, they can disrupt the signal significantly as well.

So, if the space between the computer and router are close, but you're still having trouble - look for these popular consumer devices. Unplug them / remove batteries and see if the signal improves. Move the router to a centrally located point in the area that it is to be served. Pay attention to the types of materials that the signal must pass through - air, paper, and wood aren't too bad. Brick, mortar, soil & metal can substantially reduce signals very quickly. It is better to have the router above the area to be served rather than below it.

Lastly, check the channel that the router is being operated on. The band of frequencies for "b" and "g" wifi consists of 11 channels (1 through 11) in the U.S. The best frequency to use is channel 5 (ch 5) or channel 6 (ch 6). This is because it is in the "middle" of the band (like the way 98 is middle of the 88 - 108 FM broadcast band). Other signals *may* be on the frequencies above ch 11 and below ch 1. Being on 5 or 6 keeps as much space between YOUR wifi signals and those that aren't wifi types. Ch 5 or Ch 6 may already be in use by a neighbor. If that is the case, you both will be on the same channel and the signal will be significantly reduced. Try to get as far away from his or her signal as possible - this may mean ch 3 or ch 9 - or maybe even ch 1 or ch 11 under the right conditions.

I hope this helps and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

How do I receive the signal with another computer?

Hi, I have given ya a link that will explain all... http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/setup/wireless.mspx www.microsoft.com/athome/moredone/wirelesssetup.mspx Basically you give the Wifi Router an SSID (Unique name, say, AlrenaWiFi... whatever ya like though) Then on the "Remote" if it isn't already, you activate, "Enable" the WiFi adapter... and when enabled, the adapter then "Detects" the (any) wifi signals, you are asked if you want to "Connect" choose YOUR wifi SSID (Name) click connect and you will Be done. Now, thats for an unsecured network, for a "Secure" network, one simply has to assign a "WEP Key" to each "end" as an extra step. This is all explained in the tutorials.
