Panasonic RR-930 Desktop Cassette Transcriber / Recorder Logo
Posted on Feb 02, 2011

My Panasonic RR-930 transcriber speeds up and slows down as I play back tapes. The problem seems to be with the machine itself and not the foot pedal or the tapes. Where do I start?

Start by cleaning the capstan roller. The rubber roller and small steel rod just above it, control the tape speed. Just a little lint, build up or animal hair wrapped around this can cause the speed to vary. Clean with alcohol and a Q-tip.

Panasonic RR-930 does not backspace with or without pedal. It engages the mechanism but appears stuck when tape is inserted. Runs fine without tape in deck.

The ancient tape is junk. Buy a new one. You might also try slamming the old tape against a wall or desk to loosen up the tape layers. Then FF and RW all the way.

After erasing a tape I have a high pitched noise when I step on the foot pedal

If it works fine otherwise, I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it.

You might want to clean the heads and the capstan.

When pausing and playing the tape screeches. Already tried another unit (same model) and changing out tapes. Still screetches.

Hello not sure if you referring to the audio when you realize foot control the unit does auto backspace and the short rewind is audible if this is not your problem the unit has a bad motor probably you can send it to repair to this place
Send an email to [email protected] or call (800) 644-9525. Please indicate model, serial and detailed description of problem

High pitch sqealing noise

This is caused be a bad record switch. As a temporary solution, incert a blank tape, push the record switch, then stop. Repeat about 10 times. This may clean the contacts of the record/Play switch but it will probably need to be replaced.

Tape plays too fast on slowest setting

The tapes may have been recorded at 1/2 speed or 1/4 speed so they are not playable on this model.
