Will run, but wont heat..

The magnetron is what makes a microwave heat. The megnatron can go bad causing no heat but let the rest of the unit work just fine.
partselect, com and daysappliance are excellent sites for parts, prices, diagrams, and more.

The keypad and clock works but the oven will not heat. and the oven makes a loud, abnormal sound when turned on. any ideas how i might get this oven running again?

If it appears to be making all the normal sounds but just a louder noise and no heat, your probably looking at a magnetron that is bad on unit. You are looking at about $100 just for the part. Hope this helps

Power on Turn,Turn Table Moves,but don't heat

To allow us to help you effectively (at no charge), please post a NEW problem to FixYa, and please include your brand name and the full model number from the tag in or on the unit, your symptoms ("no heat"), as well as the answers to these questions:

- When you try to microwave are the inside light, internal cooling fan and turntable all working?

- Is there any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

We have a sound clip here of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are working.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

Noise while not running

don;t worry;
all you need to do is lubricate the fan bearings with light machine oil and make sure the fan is not hitting anything

We have a micro wave model MMV5156AAS that has recently stopped working. The fan works find but the micro wave is now making a louder noise and doesn't heat anything. We like this unit vey much and would...

I would suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/xformer.html

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Won't heat

Do the inside light and turntable come on when you try to cook?

Is it making any unusual noise or is it louder or quieter than normal?

Do you have the model number?

Intermittant heating

You probably have a new unit by now. The Magnetron part inside usually is the problem with this Maytag unit.I have had this unit blow the 'Magnetron' four times ! Everything else works fine. After watching the technician, I replaced it myself the other 3 times. The whole unit has to come out of the wall to do this. This High Voltage part is dangerous. The part costs about $100.00 from an online parts store. Partselect.com- or someone else.
