I have seen another Presario desktop with this problem, and it was dust in the front panel jamming the switch on. Pushing the switch turned the machine on, but because it stayed on, after 4-5 seconds the PC shut down again.

I had to remove the front panel and clean out all the dust, then lubricate the switch movement.

Any beeps as it boots up?
Check the power button is not sticking first. It needs to release after powering up the board, otherwise it will cause the comp to shut down.

There is a very good chance that your cpu got too hot and, has died. replace the cpu. you should be able to remove it with only a blade screwdriver.

It is fare to easy to brake the new lcd or but a wrong screw in bazel cover and brake more than what was broken.

Loud click sounds like either a short or overload, causing ground default. recheck inside for any loose connections anything grounding out the motherboard.
