I have looked all the internet for a solution and have found NOTHING. Many people have had this problem. If you search on the internet to buy particular camera a curious amount are refurbished... now this is just a guess, but im guessing there must have been a massive batch realised from the factory which were faulty and were sold off cheap to various companies.
I am yet to find a full fix for the problem HOWEVER i have found a temporary solution...
While messing around before i noticed that the camera lights up when plugged into the mains, it does this whether you have the battery in or not. After much F'ing around a noticed that if you hold down the capture button when you turn the camera on it sometimes takes a photo before turning back off again.
Instead of trying to sort the problem with charging the battery i messed about until found a way to use the camera without using the battery....
1. Plug the camera into the main electricity supply using the charger provided. (Im guessing this also works if you plug into your PC using the usb cable)
2. When the screen turns on you will see the green startup screen which lasts about 2-3 seconds. Once you see the green screen you will need to repeatedly press the following 2 buttons: *The OK button (press the dial in) *The return button (the bottom button of the 3 smaller buttons, its has a small triangle next to it. Its just above the hole u put your headphones in) You will need to repeatedly tap these 2 buttons.
3. If done correctly you will notice that the screen stay on, although usually you wont be able to see an image. When you get to this stage simply tap the OK button again a few more times and you will then get full access to the camcorder and its menus. (sometime you wont need to do step 3 as the camera will turn on automatically with step 2)

Please note, the above does not work everytime. It usually takes me a couple of tries before switching on. If you dont get sucess just pull out the cable, plug it back in and try again.
This is only a temporary fix, the downside being that it has to be connected to a power supply constantly which is abit ****! I have no idea why this works, i guess thats just technologhy for you!
Please let me know if the above solution works for you, and if anybody out there finds a better solution, or can take it 1 step further and get the camera working fully then please let me know. I can be contacted onhttp://www.facebook.com/dean.gresty
I dont think i need to say it, but for anybody out there who is thinking about getting this camera. DONT. lol its not worth the hastle.
Please vote this up if this solution works for you, it would be interesting to see how many people out there have the exact same problem.

I have this camera and HAD this problem - I found that I was using any old MINI USB charger.

Maybe it's the voltage or something but you have to use the right charger. I have a drawer full of Mini USB chargers, just try different ones until you find the one that works :)

Battery Won't Charge on JVC GZ-MG275

The only suggestion is that it's a faulty battery. You said the camcorder is new, take the battery back, it's under waranty, and get a new one.

Sharp Camcorder VL-NZ100E battery doesn't seem to charge

2.7 volts is too low. Usually camcorders use battery at least 6 volts. Problems with rechargeables especially NiCds and NiMH, a cell will be shorted. for 6 volts pack, there are 5 cells in series (5 pcs x 1.2 volts with load , 1.35 no load). If you are measuring only 2.7 volts, it is highly possible that 3 cells are dead. As for the charger, if the same charger is used to power the camcorder and you said the the camcorder operates using the adaptor, this means that the charger is OK. You can ZAP the battery back to life but I will not recommend. It can be dangerous. If you can buy the battery, I suggest you do it since the old battery, even when zapped, will not provide enough juice anymore.

Can't charge the battery

# New batteries need to be drained by using the camcorder until the viewfinder indicates the battery is empty. Follow these steps: Once the battery has been drained, you may use the charger to recharge the battery. # Consult your manual for the amount of time the battery requires on the charger to get a full charge. # A full charge will be delivered by the charger. # Some camcorders have a Refresh feature, which will automatically drain the initial charge on the battery. This allows the battery to fully recharge.
