There is a problem with the charger and given the age I would take it to an authorized dealer and get a replacement. If you give me your general area I will try and locate one close to you. Please before voting if you need more assistance let me know. Thank you
No, that is NOT the problem.. The problem is Makita as well as others (even Dell laptops) have a chip inside the battery. When it hits a certain criteria it will no longer allow the batts to charge. I KNOW this is true because I took one apart after it had a full charge - ran for 5-10 minutes then just stopped. When I replaced it on the charger the dreaded red-green flash.. It is all a gimmick - They tell you the battery(s) will last longer, BULL! I now have to go spend almost the cost of the drill to get a new battery !
The battery charger is date coded so they should be able to determine its age from that. Makita is generally good about taking care of their customers. I used to work for them and they want to keep end users satisfied. And the other comment about the chip is feasible but you indicated that you tried the batterys in another charger but no problem so that is what I am going on. some of the lithium-ion batterys have a chip that a scanner can read to determine the condition and how many recharges
I appreciate what you are saying bigmack but I read the problem the asker posted and HE tried the batterys in ANOTHER charger without a problem so it would INDICATE a charger problem.
OK, NOW I get it.. I never really thought about the charger issue.. My drill came with two batts - both a little over 18 months old. I guess I will try and locate another charger and give them a try!!! Thanks for the info!!
