The calculator writes 8 all over

During operation of the TI-Nspire handheld it may be necessary to reset the device. Circumstances which may require a reset include; keys not responding, device will not turn on or a garbled display. To reset the device:
• Remove the keypad (for TI-Nspire with ClickPad, TI-Nspire with TouchPad, and TI-Nspire CAS with Touchpad) or the battery door (for TI-Nspire CAS with ClickPad) and remove at least one battery from each column of batteries. After 2-5 seconds, reinsert the batteries but do not turn the handheld on.
For the TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS handheld units with ClickPad:
• Hold down [home] [enter] [P].
• While holding these keys press [on].
For the TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS handheld units with TouchPad and the TI-Nspire CX and TI-Nspire CX CAS:
• Hold down [doc] [enter] [EE].
• While holding these keys press [on].
Please Note: For TI-Nspire Family handheld units that contain rechargeable batteries you can alternatively hold the above keys while pressing the [reset] button on the back of the handheld rather than removing the battery for 2-5 seconds.
• The device will boot up as in the previous reset, but will display a menu with the following options. Please try options 2, 3, and 4 in that order.
• 1: Cancel - The most non-intrusive reset option; no changes are made, the unit restarts.
• 2: Delete Operating System - The operating system will be deleted without deleting any documents on the system.
• 3: Delete Document Folder Contents - This will delete the user's documents, but will not delete the OS. Selecting this option is the same as using the RESET hole on the back of the unit.
• 4: Complete Format - This will delete the OS and all documents for a total wipe of the handheld.
Please note that the second and fourth option will require that the OS will need to be reinstalled

How do I simplify radical expressions with fractions on a TI-nspire cx cas

If the results' display mode is set to exact, the calculator will give you exact results. This means that if the result has radicals you will obtain a rationalized expression: any radicals left will be in the numerator. This is the default behavior of the calculator when display mode is st to EXACT. There are no more simplifications to perform.
However (because I am not certain what you mean by simplification) I will add that if any number in your calculation has a decimal mark, the result will be given in its decimal representation. (Is this what you mean by simplification.
Further, if you do not care for exact result switch the display mode to APPROXIMATE.
I am enclosing a screen capture to show you what happens.

Making PI a variable in TI-82 Calculator

The calculator does not have a Computer Algebra System or CAS: It cannot handle non numerical quantities. Every letter symbol must have a value stored in it prior to being used. If no value is stored in a letter symbol, value 0 is assigned to it. Sorry.
As to calling Pi a variable, I would not got that far, even if the calculator would give me 2Pi.
TI calculators that have a CAS are the TI92 Plus, the Voyage 200 PLT, and the TI Nspire CAS, TI Nspire CX CAS.

I can't get my TI-nspire calculator to give me the answer in anything but decimals, for example the sin(pi/4) should be something like radical 2 / 2 but instead i get .7 ??? help

The TI Nspire has two calculation modes: Auto and Approximate. In Auto mode the calculator will attempt to do exact calculations. If that is not possible then the results are displayed as decimals. The non CAS version does not do symbolic manipulations, only the CAS version can do that.
However if you are actually using the CAS calculator, then go to the settings ( Settings>General ) and change the settings for the calculatoion mode to EXACT. The Non Cas does not have that third choice.

How do you put the batteries in?

  1. Remove the keypad (for TI-Nspire) or the battery door (for TI-Nspire CAS) and remove at least 1 battery from each column of batteries. After 2-5 seconds, reinsert the batteries and turn the unit on. This will cause the unit to reboot the operating system.
  2. Remove the keypad (for TI-Nspire Family or TI-Nspire CAS Touchpad) or the battery door (for TI-Nspire CAS) and remove at least 1 battery from each column of batteries. After 2-5 seconds, reinsert the batteries and LEAVE THE UNIT OFF (do not turn on and then back off). If the TI-Nspire/TI-Nspire CAS is a Clickpad, hold down [Home] [Enter] [P], and while holding these keys, press [On]. If the TI-Nspire/TI-Nspire CAS is a Touchpad, instead hold down [Doc] [Enter] [EE], and while holding these keys, press [On]. The device will boot up as in the previous reset, but will display a menu with the following options. Please try options 1, 2, 3, and 4 in that order. ** The [Home] key is located at the top right of the TI-Nspire keypad and has a picture of a house on it.

I am going to be getting a tinspire and I was wondering how you switch from ti-nspire mode to the ti-84 mode?

I am going to assume that you are buying the non-cas version as the Cas or computer algebra version of the nspire doesn't support the ti-nspire mode.

The tinspire will come with two key-boards. One will be the nspire keyboard, the other the ti-84 board. To switch between them there is a small toggle on the back of the calculator. Push the switch and the keyboard will pop out. Put the ti-84 keyboard in and then press the on button!

My TI Nspie CAS calculator is restarting frequently

Hello,
If you remove battery door, the TINspire CAS cannot be turned ON.
You may try to reset the unit by pressing the reset button on the back of the unit. If that does not solve the problem, you may try to reinstall or update the OS.

Anyway, here is what the Texas Instruments Knowledge Base has to say about reinstalling the OS. Hope it helps.

What steps are required to reinstall the TI-Nspire family operating system?

To reload the device’s OS using a computer with TI-Nspire Computer Link:
• Connect the TI-Nspire device (with the Nspire keypad) to the computer using the USB Standard A to Mini B cable.
• Open the TI-Nspire Computer Link software. The select device dialog should appear, and detect the device.
• Either drag the OS file (available in the ‘downloads’ area at education.ti.com) onto the TI-Nspire File Browser portion of the window, or click Tools -> Install OS.
To reload the device’s OS using another TI-Nspire or TI-Nspire CAS device:
• Connect the two devices using the USB Mini A to Mini B cable. The end marked A should be inserted into the sending unit, while the end marked B should be inserted into the receiving unit.
• On the sending unit, access the document chooser by pressing [Home] [7]. Once in the document chooser, press [Menu] and choose 9:Send OS…
NOTE: Users can only send an OS to a unit of the same model. Users cannot send an OS from a TI-Nspire to a TI-Nspire CAS.
Please see the TI-Nspire guidebooks for additional information.

I have a TI-nspire CAS calculator. When it is switched on it begins loading and then comes up with System Error. What do I do?

• Connect the TI-Nspire device (with the Nspire keypad) to the computer using the USB Standard A to Mini B cable.

Please see the TI-Nspire guidebooks for additional information.

Hope that helps.
