SOURCE: How to replace brushes?
On either side of the switch is a black disk with a notch small enough for a small screwdriver. Unscrew it and take it off to expose the spring. Gently pull the spring out and the brush should be attached. If you encounter resistance, then you may disconnect the spring from the brush. If this happens then push the spring back in and hope you catch the brush; if this does not work, then get creative or take the whole thing apart to get to it. After that, just put the new brushes in and recap.

clean the slots that hold the brushes, sometimes they get cloged and the springs do not push the brushes all the way to the armeture.

It probably can be replaced. For info on this tool call 1-800-437-3635 (Dremel) and speak with customer service about a replacement part. Hope this helps
SOURCE: dremel 400 xpr stopped working.
It could be the fuse between the brush and variable speed control switch. I have the same problem and found the fuse blown. I am hoping that I can replace the fuse without having to buy the complete speed control unit which is about $17.00 from Dremel. If yours is still under warranty you could send it back. If I can find a fuse for mine I will let you know where to get them. joatmontag
SOURCE: I have a Dremel Single Speed Model 275 that
The Dremel 275 (and other series) have a plastic coupler and spline that connect the motor shaft to the collet shaft (where the tools attach). The plastic fatigues and disintegrates, causing the collet shaft to stop, even if the motor is still running. The fix is about $5.00 --- two parts from Dremel. The 275 case is a **** shell that opens with the removal of six T-10 Torx screws.
