SOURCE: How to replace brushes?

On either side of the switch is a black disk with a notch small enough for a small screwdriver. Unscrew it and take it off to expose the spring. Gently pull the spring out and the brush should be attached. If you encounter resistance, then you may disconnect the spring from the brush. If this happens then push the spring back in and hope you catch the brush; if this does not work, then get creative or take the whole thing apart to get to it. After that, just put the new brushes in and recap.

SOURCE: dremel 400 xpr stopped working.

It could be the fuse between the brush and variable speed control switch. I have the same problem and found the fuse blown. I am hoping that I can replace the fuse without having to buy the complete speed control unit which is about $17.00 from Dremel. If yours is still under warranty you could send it back. If I can find a fuse for mine I will let you know where to get them. joatmontag

SOURCE: I have a Dremel Single Speed Model 275 that

The Dremel 275 (and other series) have a plastic coupler and spline that connect the motor shaft to the collet shaft (where the tools attach). The plastic fatigues and disintegrates, causing the collet shaft to stop, even if the motor is still running. The fix is about $5.00 --- two parts from Dremel. The 275 case is a **** shell that opens with the removal of six T-10 Torx screws.

If it doesn't work at low speed, even after first getting it started at high speed, there's something wrong with it.

Dremel rotary tool variable speed, low speed speeds up after short use. Will brush replacement solve this issue?

How stable is your line voltage? The SCR phase control used for speed control is more sensitive to line voltage changes at low speeds than at high speeds. Brushes should be changed when they are worn down to about 1/2 of their original length. Much more than this and they don't have enough tension to properly contact the commutator ring. Check with power off when the tool is cold and slowly turn the chuck by hand to feel the resistance. Run it a while and let the bearings warm up. Turn off power and turn by hand again. If it feels looser when warm (which would cause it to speed up at slow speeds), the tool might need to be disassembled and bearings oiled. I use Dexron automatic transmission fluid to lube most motors. Wipe down any excess.

Dremel multipro variable speed only starts in 4 or 5 speed

with tool unplugged rotate tool end with your finger tips if it gives any resistance to this your bearings have forign material in them (happens if your doing grinding allot) if a liberal dose of light oil (sewing machine) does not improve this friction im sorry but you;ll have to replace tool to run slower speeds

Dremel multi max stops when pressure is applyed

I took mine apart due to the same reason. Seems like the yoke that fits over the drive bearing is worn or bent to oversize so that it doesn't make a complete rotation. Hence, a very small or no cutting swath. You can replace the drive head for about 22 bucks plus shipping, (dremel parts) or go to Home Depot and get another one for 70 bucks plus tax. Or do as I did and go to harbor freight and get a Chicago Electric multi tool for about 30 bucks. It works fine. I'm not a professional and don't need a 200 dollar one.

Dremel 4200 stopped working

No.. the issue issue is the switch inside. when your Dremel 4200 stop working, press firmly the grey area between the speed selector and the brush housing. I think this a defect in the design of the 4200. 9f840401-fb84-4f7b-8c68-75a9be3ceb9e.jpg

How to replace the spline and coupling

The coupler nut tends to be screwwed on so tight that even when undone, the collet has bit into the soft shaft of the tool. Holding the rotation lock button in, grab the shank with some strong needle nose pliers and twist the shaft loose or pull it off completely with the nut and then seperate the nut from the shank when it is out of the Dremel Tool. A lot of machine tools are tightened too much, which makes the shanks get all damaged so use only the required tension on that collet nut.
