Sounds like it is trying to restore from a bad back up.
If I remeber correctly, you can select which back up to choose from, when the ipod is plugged into itunes and it pops up, right click on it and there should be a option to select which back up to pick from.
If not, google for the firmware (something like ipod touch <model) firmware. be a pretty big file, Under 200mb.
Once downloaded, plug your ipod in on your pc, then clcik restore while holding the 'shift' key, then select this fimrware file you downloaded.
It should be really easy as it is only one file, once done, youll have fresh new ipod. You will loose all your songs/ pics that are currently on there so be warned!

My 16gb apple ipod touch was disabled because i had gotten my pass code. how can i enable it to start functioning?

Hey, If its the ipod with home and power key, all what u have to do is to press the 2 buttons in the same time for 10 seconds and then realise the power key and keep holding the home key for another 5 seconds.

That will put your ipad into DFU mode or recovery mode.

Plug it to itunes, itunes will come up with a message saying that it detected your ipod in recovery mode, and it will give you the option to restore the sw and wipe the device completely.

Then everything should be fine

Help my ipod touch is a 16gb n older version and its gt 5808849 minutes left. what cn i do?

Have iTunes open and your USB cable plugged into the Computer "BUT NOT THE iPOD"!

Turn the iPod off- Press and hold the sleep/wake button at the top left corner for approximately 10 seconds until the screen says slide to power off.

Force into recovery mode Press and hold the home button (in the front on the bottom) for approximately 10 seconds until you get the image of a USB cable pointing towards the iTunes logo on the screen. If you do not get this, try holding the home button down and at the same time plugging the other half of the USB cable into the ipod waiting for a message in iTunes

Follow instructions in iTunes Once you plug the iPod into the computer, you should get a message saying "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode, it must be restored to be used." At this point you hit the restore button in iTunes and wait for the iPod to be restored

My itouch says connect to itunes but it wont let me

You will want to reset the ipod and reconnect it to your computer. Below I have posted step by steps on three trouble shooting options. If after a reset it still will not connect to the computer, proceed to step two. Putting the iPod into recovery mode. Then if in recovery mode you can get it to connect to the computer, restore it to factory settings. Restoring it is listed as step three. I left the restore article normal in case you can get it to connect with just a simple reset.

1st reset

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

2nd RECOVERY MODE
Connect your USB cable to the computer without the iPod connected at the other end.

Power off the device (Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the the iPhone or iPod touch to turn off.

Press and hold the Home button while reconnecting the USB cable to iPhone. When you reconnect the USB to iPhone, the device should then power on.
Continue holding the Home button while iPod starts up. While starting up, you will see the Apple logo. When you see "Connect to iTunes" on the screen, you can release the Home button and iTunes will display the recovery mode message: iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes.

If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, then disconnect the USB cable from iPod and repeat steps 3-6.
Because you must restore the iPod touch, iTunes will not recover data from the device, but if it was previously synced on the same computer and the same user account, it should restore a backup (if available)

RESTORE Use the following steps to restore your iPod touch:
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed and running before attempting to update. Connect your iPod touch to your computer. Select your iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices. Select the Summary tab. Select the Restore option. When prompted to back up your iPod touch's settings before restoring, select the Back Up option. If have just backed up the device, it is not necessary to create another.
Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you
Once the restore process has completed the iPod touch restarts and displays the Apple logo while starting up

If none of this works and your iPod is still under a year old I would call apple. Make sure that you inform them of the trouble shooting you have already done though. They can tend to assume people don't do trouble shooting. GOOD LUCK
