My console just says every game i try to play is unreadable is this still with the hard disc drive? because even when i tried to do microsoft support and take it out it still didnt work can i still get gamestop or soemthing to fix it or do i have to send it in to microsoft
The problem isnt with the game mate its with the disc drive. See, when this happens the laser lens is not reading the center of the disc (That silver inner disc) where all the data is. So it reads outside giving you either the unreadable disc error, or the "Open tray" message and not even reading that a disc is there. You need to send it in to microsoft to fix this problem, get your Disc tray fixed at any retailer that is qualified to do so (Or, if you wish to void your warrenty you can do it at anyone who can even if he isnt qualified)
Or, you can search youtube to learn how to do some of the tricks to get your xbox to atleast last longer untill you find a permenant solution.
Oh and, for some reason, i find removing the face plate helpful for a while, like a temporary solution. Works sometimes, might be coincedence but it wouldnt hurt to try.
Well the same thing happened to me but only on the game Bad company and it only happens on certian maps. I dont know what to do. It might be the game or the disc reader in the Xbox might be screwed up????????
SOURCE: Unreadable Disc says reading and then open tray
The easiest and most permanent fix would be to install a new drive. The process is simple and does not require alot of technical skill. Get your unit back up and running good for like fifty dollars or so.

I´ve got the same problem. I´m from sweden, so I hope I can make myself understood. Here it goes: I´ve just bought nhl09 and i´ve been playin it for about a week. After a week my xbox got the "red ring of death" or whatever u guys call it. I´m kind of addicted to nhl and while my box is sent to germany i´ve borrowed another xbox. The problem is that everytime i´ve tried to play nhl09 on it it says that the disc is unreadable and that i should clean it and restart the box. This doesn´t help. A friend of my came by with his nhl09 disc but it didn´t help, his disc was also unreadable. On the other hand, I can play nhl08 without any problems. I´ve noticed that i only get this problem when i´m tryin to play the beapro-mode on the nhl09. So i tried to play an ordinary game on the nhl09 and that seems to be no problem. So, it seems like the problem occurs when the xbox is tryin to load my beapro-profile. Does anyone know why this happens?
Cheers mates!
mi disco es ilegible pero tiene una pequeño rayajo q puedo acer
I have the same problem, but as I tried to fix it, it got worse. I can play all my games for a little while but then I get the "disk unreadable" message. I've been looking on the internet and one site said to make sure it wasn't my hard drive. I checked that and now when I play Fable II, it won't recognize the hard drive. If anyone knows what to do, please help.
we recieved our x box back maybe a year and a half ago after the dreaded ring of death and we have the same issues with the disc unreadable. we have had it from the start. we have even put brand spaking new discs in the silly thing and it still has the issue. so since i am sure that this is not included in our lovely extended warranty that they so lovingly bestowed upon us...scam...does anyone know how much it costs to repair or would my best bet be to burn the thing and buy a ps3.
Same exact problem... and I have the new xbox with the jasper chipset. I know the mother board doesn't mean anything to the unreadable disk problem, but you think microsoft would correct disk read errors too... guess not... crooks!
Luckily, I bought mine used so it's under warranty... sending it in for repairs.
