Delta 36-979 10" Left-Tilt Contractor's Saw Logo
Posted on Feb 01, 2011

I have a delta contractors table saw that wont start. It has a Marathon Electric Motor 62-044 that hangs off the back. It has capacitors rather than brushes. When you turn on the swithch it does nothing. I checked the power to the saw an its good. I think it may be the capacitor(one or both). When you turn on the switch it does nothing no buzzing nothing. Is it the capacitors and do I have to split the motor(pull out the long bolts that run all the way thru the motor to get at the base of these capiaitor wires or not. Ideas????

Most likely to quit suddenly is the switch.
My table saw switch broke recently, and at first I thought it was the motor.
Over the years I remember seeing table saws fitted with a handy box and ordinary light switch to replace the table saw switch.
Check for power at motor: Sometimes the wire connection from switch has access box on the motor where you can get in and check for power.

Motor on my delta 36-5152 table saw while cutting the motor stops

Has it just started or been an ongoing problem, If you are using extension cord use a 12 AWG cord The orange or blue store sells them. The switch nay be bad. You can have the motor rebuilt at a motor shop if necessary. Personally y I would do cord, then switch.
While you have switch box open check the wiring.

My table saw will not start. the power source is good.

If the motor is using a single phase supply there will be a capacitor which could have reduced in value- open.
If so try and use a capacitor in parallel to see if the motor works-- in this case the motor might hum and get heated up.

The saw will die down then blown the overload putton or the Breaker.Doing this since i bought it.They put two new moters in it,I can ever get thorght 4 feet of pine with no knots, Delta gave up.Or that...

if it were me i would contact Delta directly by email or phone. give them documentation of everything that was done and what the tech said.
i am wondering if you dont have bearing problems in the arbor. or maybe the arbor its self is defective. if you could remove the belt from the motor and start it up. see how long it runs and how it sounds. also with it off and the belt off, move the blade. it should roll very easy.
one other thing is, with the belt on the motor , the motor should just hang there and be movable.
the weight of the motor its self is suppose to be enough to put the proper tension on the belt. dont pull the motor tight on the belt and lock it down. reply back with your results

Table saw does not start.

if it just hummmms then check for a start capacitor on the motor body,if none, then check for a bad centrifigual motor switch on the end of the motor

What capacitor should be on a table saw motor

The part number you reference is a start capacitor. (details can be seen here: http://www.superioressex.com/uploadedFiles/Distribution/North_America/Essex_Brownell/Downloads/Linecards_and_Catalogs/capacitors_w.pdf )

It appears that the component capacitors (there are 2) are not available as separate parts from Delta. They only reference the motor itself (part 220 in the diagrams listed below.)

http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-36650-type-table-saw-parts-c-3275_3334_13634.html

At this point, I would try to locate another saw of the same model and read any numbers that may appear on the original capacitors on the motor. Please note the location and connections of each. There should be a run cap and a start cap on the motor.

The differences between a 47uFD and 20uFD caps are not an issue in this application.

How do I align the saw blade with the saw table I have a 10 inch Delta Contractor's saw that is about 10 years old. The blade is not straignt with the miter slot. [email protected]

The Blade Arbor is held to the bottom of the table with mounting screws and stop/adjusting screws. Loosen the mounting screw and adjust the stop screws to make Blade true with miter slot.
