Tip & How-To about Linksys WPSM54G Print Server

Installation CD for the print server

If you are having trouble going through the setup process on the installation cd do the following:

  1. Disable any encryption settings on your wireless router.
  2. Disable MAC filtering.
If these features are enabled during the installation setup process, the wireless features will not work unless you go into the admin settings of the print server by typing the IP address into internet explorer. Type in the correct encryption settings.

Linksys has a provision in the setup software to key in the correct encryption however the software doesn't put the information in properly. This will cause the wireless not to work and allow the print server to work only when it is wired to the network.

Encryption settings have to be entered through the administration settings of the router by typing in the IP address of the print server using internet explorer.

Sir

Checking or verifying the wireless settings of your Linksys Cable Gateway is important when connecting wireless devices to your network. This is the best route to take if you are unsure of your gateway's wireless settings.
The wireless settings that you need to take note of are:
  • SSID
  • SSID Broadcast
  • Wireless Security
To check the wireless settings on the Linksys gateway follow the steps below:
Step 1:
Access the gateway's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Maccomputer to access the cable gateway's web-based setup page, click here.
Step 2:
Click the Wireless tab.

Step 3:
Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID). It is recommended to change the SSID to something unique.

Step 4:
Click the Wireless Security sub-tab and take note of the current Wireless Encryption Level and the Wireless SSID Broadcast if it is set to Enable or Disable.

If Wireless Encryption Level is set to No Encryption, this means that the wireless security on the gateway is disabled.
If Wireless Encryption Level is set to 64 Bit Encryption or 128 Bit Encryption, check the value under Default Key and take note of the Wireless WEP Key that corresponds to it.

Loss the setup CD-ROM

A setup CD isn't needed to setup the linksys wireless router.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default admin PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption to protect your wireless network and Internet from unauthorized access.
Now apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

I setup my Lexmark Z2420 on a wireless connection

Setting up a Lexmark Z2420 on a wireless connection is a straightforward process, but it can vary depending on your specific network configuration. Here are the general steps you can follow to set up your Lexmark Z2420 on a wireless connection:
  1. Connect the printer to the wireless network: Turn on the printer and make sure it is in range of your wireless network. Press the Wireless button on the printer's control panel to access the wireless menu. Use the navigation buttons to select "Wireless Setup Wizard" and then press OK. Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the printer to your wireless network.
  2. Install the printer software: Insert the installation CD that came with your printer into your computer's CD drive and follow the on-screen instructions to install the printer software. If you don't have the installation CD, you can download the software from the Lexmark website.
  3. Add the printer to your computer: Once the software is installed, add the printer to your computer by following the on-screen instructions. You may be prompted to enter your wireless network name and password.
  4. Test the printer: Once the printer is connected to your wireless network, test it by printing a test page from your computer.
It's important to note that the steps may vary depending on your specific network configuration, and it's best to consult the manual or the Lexmark website for the specific instructions. Also, it's important to make sure that your computer and the printer are connected to the same wireless network and that the network is working properly before attempting to connect the printer. If you're still having trouble setting up the printer, you may need to consult the manual or contact Lexmark customer support for additional assistance. if i help my cashapp $ralphpapi

cannot connect to internet without hard wire from router to compu

It does sound like you may need to upgrade firmware. Not sure what OS you are running as Netgear is still in the process of updating Vista firmware. Anyway here is the URL you need:

http://www.netgear.co.uk/product_support.php

You might like to try:

1. Disable Windows Firewall

2. In Internet Options Control Panel go to the connection tab and then the LAN Settings where you can uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" button.

3. If you have any third party software, I would get rid of this and ensure that the"Windows Zero Configuration" in the Services menu is set to "Automatic" and the status is started.

Interestingly, Anti Virus programs sometimes interfere with wireless set up - you could see if it helps by disabling it whilst configuring your wireless. It might also be worth trying to connect without any encryption code & see if that will connect - you can then sort out the encryption.
