The Mobilepro 780 does not have built-in wireless capabilities, but does have a full PCMCIA (PC Card) slot on the right side.
Your WPC11 is a commonly paired card with the MP7X0 (780,790, etc) series because it has Windows CE drivers easily available.
Other cards may be usable, but they must have drivers that are compatible with Windows CE 2.11 (on the 780) or whatever version is running (or possibly what os, if another was added, such as Linux ) AND run on a MIPS processor.

Are you using the NEC Mobilepro 900c drivers? I'm sure the drivers are different. YOu can find the XP drivers here: http://hpcmonex.net/nec900/files/soft/nec/activesyncusb.zip In addition, you should make sure that you have Activesync 3.8 or older. You can find it here: http://www.hpcfactor.com/ftp-root/software/microsoft/activesync/activesync-38/MSASYNC.EXE
Daniel, this card has a bad history with the MP 790...please see the link for more details.
