Hi
Dishwashers use Bi-Metal strip to allow the dispenser to open/close. This strip when heat up causes the soap door spring to open up the dispenser. If this strip is not heated doesn't allow the door to open. The strip may not be getting 120V or maybe disconnected. Newer (plastic liner) dishwashers use a wax motor to open the soap dispenser. The plunger inside the wax motor slowly moves and pushes the plunger and door open. And, if this wax motor doesn't receive 120 volts, then it'll not work. Please check the voltage to the wax motor/Bi-metal strip; also inspect the connections to these. Hope this helps...

Why does it keep dispensing soap?

What do you mean "keep dispensing soap"? Is this a GE dishwasher with an automatic soap dispenser? Or do you mean that the soap lid won't latch or stay closed? Or are you talking about the rinse-aid dispenser leaking rinse-aid (which is fairly common)?

MY SOAP DOOR WONT STAY CLOSED

Soap dispenser latch problem.

a) Look at the latch whether there is build up of soap. CAREFULLY clean it. It might work.

b) If not just replace the whole dispenser unit. Not worth wasting time on trying to fix the spring problem. Most dispensers are $ 50 ~ $ 100 price range.

Ge nautilus dishwasher 165d5450p004 latch won't close

RoselsRose,
Thanks for the info about your grandson coming bye the dishwasher and messing with the dial! My son (14 month old) did the same thing and the soap dispenser door/latch would not stay closed. It just kept springing back open. I thought for sure the latch was broke until I saw your post and went to the outside dial and brought it back to off. Sure enough, the soap dispenser door stays closed. You just saved me an expensive repair! Thanks!

Soap dispenser will not close stays open will not latch

Turn off power to the machine. Remove the inner door panel and inspect the dispenser cover latch for any broken components. If everything looks ok, check the action of the release solenoid by hand. If it is sticky or stuck closed, try removing the center pole piece and clean the solenoid interior and pole piece with a small rag or 'Q tips' with WD40. Don't otherwise lubricate the solenoid. Push the cover closed and push the solenoid pole to release the latch, then repeat the process again. If the cover will latch again, you can replace everything and try a load of dishes. Hope this helps

Soap dispenser cover won't close

It sounds like it may be stuck between cycle steps.(this sometimes happens if the washer is open during a cycle)Try and run it through one full wash cycle as it is.Then check to see if the soap door will close. If not,the lack may be broken
