The hitachi external hard drive was accidently unplugged when I was copying files on it. It now makes several beeping noises and clicking noises when plugged in and is not recognized by my computer.

take the hard drive to a computer repair shop but from your description , it may be dead
if it is a disc type hard drive , then continually moving it around is not good for the delicate workings
if it is dead , replace it with a solid state hard drive which has no moving parts and is a lot more robust

Connect the external hard drive to the host computer.

Plug the external hard drive into an electrical power source.

Navigate to the external hard drive listing under the "My Computer" window.

Double-click the external hard drive drive icon listing and navigate to the files to be copied using the provided navigation window.

Right-click the files to be transferred and select the "Copy" heading from the context menu.

Navigate to the destination folder on the host computers hard drive using the same navigation window.

Right-click within the folder and select the "Paste" option.

This begins the process of transferring the files to the computers hard drive.

This process takes several minutes to several hours, depending on the size of the files and the speeds of the hard drives.

A progress bar will appear to keep the user informed of the process completion status.

Hi there,

Connect the external hard drive to your computer using a USB cable. When you have done that, go to 'my computer', click open it. You would see your hard drive(C:\ ), and you would also see the external hard drive. Click open the external, go to the location of the files on your external, ie, they might be in a folder, right click the one you want to transfer, select copy, go to 'my documents' on yor pc, and paste.
If what you are copiying is quite many, select the first, then while holding down the control key, select the others, while still holding down CTRl, right click and select copy. Then paste in 'my documents'.

i just woke up to the same problem this morning ... i believe my drive has went out

The spinning mechanism on the HDD is failing meaning it can't read data of the platans. Unfortunately you need to buy a new one as this one can't be repaired.

When a hard drive makes a clicking noise, it is faulty. The clicking noise is the heads swinging back and forth. This hard drive is dead and the data is lost. If you desperately need to recover your data, there are companies that can recover and copy your data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

I have a 640 GB easy drive. It hit the floor and now when I turn it on, all I get is beeps and hear movement in the harddrive but it does not work

Probably not. You can try putting it in the freezer overnight (in a bag please, don't get moisture in it) but most likely if you must have the files back it will take professional help.
