I could not unscrew the bottom part to change the battery. Should I use unscrew it by anti clockwise or clockwise only. I even spray WD40 beforehand.

Counter clockwise to get bottom cap off. They're usually pretty tight because cap is steel and tube is aluminum. Grab tube with pliers and try turning cap

Battery compartment won't open

On those old M series cameras its best to use a coin to unscrew battery cover. 10c piece is about right size. Right hand thread so anti clockwise. If its to stuck try a drop of anti seize or Penatrol, just a tiny amount and don't spray all over. Same if its corroded. If that is still stuck you can drill 2 small holes into the cover, insert 2 small bits of stiff wire and put a screw driver between them and unscrew that way. Replacement covers are available on ebay.

I cant unscrew the bottom of the glass jar to clean it.

If u cannot unscrew it is a problem. People normally twist anti clockwise where as in the blenders to unscrew it is twisted clockwise.

The drill chuck is locked and not shifting forward or reverse

Check that there is not a reverse screw in the bottom of the chuck which has become loose. This can jam the chuck, screw it in (anti clockwise) or Spray inside with WD40, then use a large pair of grips to free it in both directions.

Washing pauses and does not start until button pushed even when empty. Does not drain properly. Clothes are still soaked after spin. I can hear the water running into drain. This washer is 4 years old.

Turn off the power and the water to the washing machine.
Below the front door, there is panel. At the bottom of the panel there are 3 screws that hold the panel to the frame of the GE washer.
Remove these screws. It is not easy to remove these screws. Use WD40 - let it sit for a few hours and use a plier/screw driver and turn the screw anti-clockwise to unscrew.

Once the panel comes off, you will find a round white knob. remember the position of the filter knob. Make sure you have rags/bucket/tray under this knob. Turn the knob anti-clockwise and remove it slow and pull it out. This filter may be clogged with lint and 'goo'. Clean it and put it back in. Make sure the filter is back in. Do not tighten it.

Assemble the panel with the screws. Coat the screw with vaseline so that they do not rust.

In a Zanussi FJS 1397 W machine does the drum pully fixing bolt have a right hand or a left hand thread ie does it unscrew anti-clockwise or clockwize??

It should be a normal right hand thread, unscrew anti-clockwise.
If you are having difficulty unscrewing it, then try applying some heat to the bolt head, and spray with WD40.
Hope this helps.
