Menu screen won't go away

Hello,

I have a magnavox 51" Rear Projection. (not sure the year...need to find the manual). Anyway, when we turn the t.v. on, the menu appears and every time I exit out of it, it pops back up. It will do this repeatedly for a while and then stop. However the problem has been getting worse, (i.e. it is taking longer for the menu screen to go away). In addition, it is starting to do this when we are watching t.v. (never has done that before, only when we turned on the tv).

Same exact problem in my 50" Phillips. When it first started, about once every 30 seconds to 2 minutes the menu would come up. The problem is now much worse and the menu comes up about 10 seconds after I dismiss it.

SOURCE: magnavox 51" hdtv rear projection

Those symptoms describe a convergence failure. Replaced both Stk392-120 convergence amps made by Sanyo and R3159 , R3160 (6.8 ohm 1w) resistors and check the remaining low ohm resistors for change in value.
This is probably one that you'll want to take to the shop unless you have some fairly good skills in electronic repair. Job will probably be about $350 - $425 if you take the unit in yourself and shop around for a reputable shop.

SOURCE: help unlock child lock on tv.

The solution is so simple!
Press the POWER (RED) button and the TV/AV button simultaneously - hey presto! the child lock will switch off and you will have your TV back working properly.

My phillips 51'' rear projection tv has red and green shadows on it

The convergence is off on the tv more than likely. Check the owners manual on how to adjust convergence or call the manufacturer they are good about walking their customers through the steps to fix convergence. You can also press the menu button or try another source such as a dvd player and/or a gaming system. If other sources have the same issue it's for sure the tv.

Picture has red and blue shadow images

thats a fairly easy fix. You need the DPTV305-DPTV345 convergence repair kit available at the following link.
http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
The kit contains the parts and the CD with instructions

Picture getting darker

first thing i would look at is it is probabily dust on the lences and miror, you need to take the screws out all the way arount the screen from the back, then lean the screen out tward you from the front, do this while the tv is on, you will be able to see the dust alot better, take a soft cloth and glass cleaner and clean little miror, and lences

Mute and C on the screen

The TV is in factory or demo mode - turn tv off and unplug it from wall outlet for 30 seconds - turn tv back on after 30 seconds and see if problem goes away. If not, press the (volume -) and (channel -) buttons repeatedly for about 10 seconds to see if "C" will go away. If this fails call 1-888-PHILIPS for further assistance (they do Magnavox also).
