How are you doing the clean cycle ?
You should put a tablet in the coffee grounds front lid.
Push the clean button on the inside front panel.
The machine will ask you to open tap and empty tray along the way.
Make sure it does the full cycle.

Hi, I have a Hotpoint WD440 Wash / Dryer. When switched on at the mains electricity the "Rinse Hold, Reduce Creases, Drying Heat, time saver, dry and on/off buttons all flash for approx 5 mins, then...

The flashing lights are an error code (Which I can't quite figure, but I believe ARE associated with a blocked filter. Is it possible that the slime and mess extended beyond the filter?

Before you go throwing the machine away, Unplug it from the mains (NOT just turn it off) to allow the machine to reset and while it's unplugged, stuff your garden hose up the waste water pipe and turn it on full blast to blow any remaining debris out of the way. (Wrap a towel over the end of the pipe to soak up the spliiage as one will not fit neatly into the other).

How to clean it? It tells me:" Hold 1&2

The book says to continue the cleaning steps until it resolves, you could try the descaling. Either get the commercial product or try vinigar and water, it may have a mineral/calcium build up.
