Hello. I'm looking at purchasing a 2 year old phillips-magnavox 42 in. lcd tv. The screen has recently been cracked. They want $150 for the unit. Can the screen be repaired/replaced and do you have any idea how much it would cost? Would it be worth the money to repair it? It will not be used as the primary tv in the house. Thanks!
It will cost a lot, getting a new TV might be better
The LCD display is very costly to replace, best option is to replace the TV entirely.
You had better not to choose this thing, because in future it may become a headache for you.
Most likely your repair will be more costly then it is worth. A week down the road something else could break. Your best bet would be to just sell the tv on craigslist or ebay to someone for parts and purchase a brand new tv. You might want to get a panasonic or comparable brand. As they have better customer service and more parts or available for a longer time.
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Lee
Hi-
No its not worth it since chances are you are going to send this for a repair technician, there will be an estimated fee, labor fee and might need to change the LCD as well. Buy a new TV instead
Thanks for using Fixya!
Hi,
I would highly recommend you to go for selling it because as your not interested to use it as the primary TV..The replacement may or may not cost you higher than 150$ which can be decided based only on seeing the TV..But if you wish not to sell this for such a low price you can always go for replacement of screen my friend!..which can be found from http://www.olx.com/q/screen/c-366/p-4
Please post for how things turned or for further assistance too..Thank you ..Regards!!..

Information was ok, but the company referred too is 1/2 way across the country. I'm in Houston, TX. Also, I would just like a general answer to my questions BEFORE I ever contact a service for repair.
I guess I wasn't clear. I can PURCHASE the tv for $150. With everything else being said, is it worth it or is the cost to fix it too much?
Thanks Lee. Finally a straight answer. I sincerely appreciate the response to my query.
