My bunn vlpf coffee maker the water tank is overheating to the point of steam is spewing fro the air release tube... I'm thinking thermostat ?

It sounds like the thermostat needs to be change. it is located under the top of the unit. Should be on the left side under the lid. Visit this link to get an idea of the part..http://www.ereplacementparts.com/thermostat-kit-p-847667.html.

This sounds like you need the thermostat replaced. Call bunn at 1 800 263 2256 and talk with parts. You need part number 35286.7000. On a VPS the thermostat is in the top of unit. Take the lid off and you will see it. It has a black dial and a silver probe wire coming from it to the top of the tank. It is fairly easy to remove and replace. Unplug the machine first. Unscrew the screw holding the old thermostat in. Then unhook the two wires from it. Take the rubber grommet out of the top of the tank and remove the thermostat and probe(the part that sits in tank) Put new thermostat in. Make sure the new rubber grommet is set at the red mark on the probe wire and then set the bulb into tank. Attach the two wires back onto the new thermostat(does not matter which wire goes where) and secure the new thermostat with the one screw. Make sure the black dial is turned all the way to the left and close the lid. Plug machine back in and wait for it to heat up again. If the water does not heat up enough turn the black dial all the way to the right.

Sounds like your timer part #32400.0002.This is the new type timer which replaces the dial timer.Another thing is does this happen when you turn on the on/off switch? I would also check your liquid level probe in top of tank.Always a possibility bad liquid level board.If it only does this when you push the brew button the timer is bad.

Try using a bunn deliming spring.Remove sprayhead and run thru the brew tube all the way into the tank.If the water is hot the brew tube is partially blocked going into tank.

Fill water tank until water comes out from sprayhead, THEN plug it in it should be OK.

IF the machine keeps blowing steam/keeps boiling the water, The thermostat is defective and must be replaced.

NOTE: If you don't use the machine for a couple days, UNPLUG IT. The water will evaporate if you don't unplug it.

THe most likely answer is that the tube that leads to the sprayhead is clogged with lime. You will need to remove the spray head wich is located above the brew basket and make sure the holes are not clogged with lime. Use a wire brush to clear them. In the field I would use a deliming spring but you may need to go to a lowes or home depot to find a tool you can use to clear the tube wich is what the spray head screws onto or just goole deliming spring and try to order one off line. It is a long flecible very tightly wound dpring about 14 inches in length or so. www.midstaebeverage.com

Is it still under warranty? Bunn should take care of it for you if it is. Usually if the coffee is only warm it may mean that a thermal limit has tripped. The water stays warm because the tank has a heater blanket that is wrapped around it but you aren't getting any power to the heater that is in the tank.

Check the elements first, also check the hi-limit switch and the thermostat, then check the elements the machine might have been low on water at one point.

Hello, you have a problem with the inlet valve or timer. hit the brew button and then once the water starts running through the brew cone pull the plug, if after a couple of minutes the brew stops your problem is going to be with the timer (you should replace it) if the brew does not stop at all then you have a problem with the inlet valve (it has a piece of calcium stuck in the valve) you should replace the valve kit in this instance. There are 3 seals in your unit that could cause your problem. there is a silicon seal right under the pour-in tray, and two on the top of the tank. one of those is for the thermostat, the other is for the sprayhead tube. any of these could leak, causing water to come out the bottom of the brewer. One other thing that can cause this is a scale buildup between the pour-in tray and the tank.
