I have a Second CPU to add to my 1600SC and the system does not see it. I have checked the CUP in the first working socket and it works fine. Is there something I need to set or enable?

Hello,

I would check the BIOS to make sure the system is registering the second cpu. (The 2nd cpu needs to be in the slot when you do this.) If it is not, enable it. If after rebooting your server still will not see the 2nd cpu, you will need to check the socket with a voltimeter to make sure power is getting to the socket slot.

Good Luck

I have a sony vaio laptop.. after using it for a several minutes, my laptop will shutdown without any warning.. I check the the cpu fan but it works fine, please help me..

You can download a software to monitoring the temperature of CUP, motherboard, graphics and so on, and to see if them are all right. The CPU fan work find doesn't mean the temperature of CUP is common. Maybe you need do a cleaning of the inside of your laptop, or you need to add silica gel between the cooling fin and CPU to get good cooling. If the temperature of other hardware if not common, you can do it as above too..

How to repair keypad problem in China Mobile

First we need to know china phone keypad connected with PCB how way
(A) Direct on PCB
(B) Flex System (flex cable direct soldering pcb to keypad panel)
© Flex and socket system include (flex one side soldering with key panel other side connect to pcb with socket)
(D) only Socket System (here have 2 socket, 1 with key panel others with pcb)
Keypad problem have various type
1. All key not work.
2. some key work and some other not work.
3. sometimes work and sometimes not work.
1. All key not work
china phone all key not work for this type of problem
(A) though its touch screen phone, first try to disconnect touch panel line from phone pcb or display flex (4 line)
(B) though not solve and keypad direct on pcb first you try to good clean full pcb with cleaner.
© though not solve now you try to format/flash your phone because some time key problem come from software problem.
(D) though still not solve now you check must be CPU. 95% china phone keypad directly going in cpu. and other 5% first going to resistor or capacitor near the cpu or keypad than going to cpu. so now first check them than you can try to re-hot, re-soldering or changing cpu.
(E) though its flex or socket system, first check GND connection continuslay pcb to key panel. next check full flex or socket all line going continuously pcb to key panel or not. also sometimes flex or socket shorted with other line or gnd so check also them.
(F) Also you can check all key anyone is short 2 line.
(G) sometimes keypad line broken from cpu pin on pcb to key panel, so check them.
2. Some key work and some other not work
Some key work and some other is not work for this type of problem
(A) maximum time this problem we face for flex or socket system keypad. so check flex cable and socket all line any line is broken or not and though need change them. and check all key connection on key panel.
(B) though its direact on pcb, some of key line broken internaly. and maximum china phone have alternative test point near every key or with other key on keypad. so check them with multimeter and though need connect to not work key with near testpoint or other working key.
© common problem is keypad metal ball (which is short 2 line on key when we press) sometimes its damage for phone water damage or over key voltage, so clean them or change.
(D) also try to check line continuously from cpu to not working key.

3. sometimes work and sometimes not work
this problem come from this defect
(A) flex or socket system keypad any line is bad soldering or do lose contact. check them and
re-soldering or keep there line join with extra ware.
(B) for cpu bad soldering or cpu pin is broken. so re-hot or re-ball cpu.

HOW TO ENABLE 289 DIMM D01 is disabled in server 2008.

terrible question; please add more detail

if your system has a dual CPU socket, perhaps you don't have a second cpu (where more memory banks usually require that second cpu socket to be populated in order to use the dimm slots); doubtful, but there could also be a jumper on your mobo

or maybe look in your BIOS; that's where things are enabled/disabled (i.e. server 2008, afik, doesn't have a way to specifically disable a dimm slot)

the mobo (or system) manual may have guidance for memory installation; e.g. sometimes there's a size or slot population type table (or compatibility; i.e. maybe the memory you are installing is dual rank and the system only takes single, thus it appears that the slot is disabled)

DELL PowerEdge 1600sc - New motherboard no joy

Are you sure the new motherboard was of the same revision as the old one? Dell shipped 400FSB boards during the beginning of the 1600SC line and shipped 533Mhz boards during the end of the run. I would check the revision level of the motherboard to make sure it is compatible. If it's the same revision, I would start small and connect just one CPU and put the system at 512mb ram and see if that works. If this works, you can begin to add additional components as needed.

Good luck

1600sc second CPU

Hi

Yes, some systems (newer PowerEdge Servers, generally 6/7th Generation and above) have onboard VRMs.

1600sc is a 6th gen PowerEdge (with Simple Computing). I can checked and be absolute certain from within Dell. I'm on VAC until Saturday.

In the meantime, check the PRC model and revision and ensure that they match. Given that a single PRC POST/Boots, try upgrading (if not already) the system BIOS to latest revision.

If the PRC model/revision does match and you have the latest BIOS version, also if the VRMs are not needed, then from the Troubleshooting you have already done, we may conclude that the PRC 2 slot is faulty.

I will confirm the VRM query on Saturday.

Adding second CPU

Hi

Did you receive a VRM with the the PRC upgrade kit? And have you installed it?

The following items are/should be included in a microprocessor upgrade kit:
• A microprocessor (PRC)
• A heat sink
• Heat-sink retention clip(s)
• A voltage regulator module (VRM),
Your upgrade kit may also include a cooling fan.

If you are adding a secondary microprocessor, examine the VRM to ensure that it is the correct VRM for your system. Install the VRM in the appropriate secondary VRM connector, ensuring that the latches at each end of the connector engage. If you received two VRMs with the upgrade kit, replace the primary VRM already installed in the system with one of the VRMs from the upgrade kit.
Note: The system does not support mismatched VRMs.

No Video Signal on 1600sc

Disconnect from the network and all other accessories, and power up the system, this might be due to a faulty device attached to the system, eg: when you connect a usb faulty device the boot takes very long time, sometime it does not boot up.

No Boot on 1600sc

The easy answer is: Did you ensure the CPU fan connector is attached to the PROPER motherboard CPU fan power pins? The 2nd easy answer is: Are you sure your CPU is properly placed inside the socket? Could it be tilted slightly up on one side? The more complicated 3rd answer is: I've seen people use the spray can of AIR, which, believe it or not causes a moisture problem AND can overly cool a component. Although the motherboard looks fine, it won't boot or power on until the part(s) rewarm to room temperature or the moisture dissipates. This is how I solve this problem. I remove the motherboard or open it completely up to clean it with 80psi of compressed air. (remove all components) If it had previously been cleaned with a can of AIR, I let it sit for half an hour. When putting the parts back together (leave the HD, the CD, the floppy disconnected), (oh...ensure your front panel connectors are properly on the correct motherboard pins too.) 1)take extra caution with both the video card and the memory chip slots!! Inspect the video card gold edge and video card slot for a few strands of carpet fiber or DUST bunnies wedged or attached to the card/slot (which causes the computer to not power ON) 2) Inspect the memory sticks and memory slots in the same manner. (I had to see it with a magnifying glass, to see the problem) Once back together, if it boots, I'm done. If it didn't boot, I replace the power supply. If that didn't solve it, I reposition or change the RAM memory. Attention to detail is the key to success. ZT3000 "Beta tester of "0"s and "1's"

CPu fan turns for 1 second and then stops.

If all was working fine before, then, you have either not connected the cpu power cable, as is sometimes required other than being powered by the processor socket, or your power supply unit is not pentium 4 compatable and is unable to power the processor.
