I avoided the Neo for several years because of that "Too short..." error. I think I have figured it out. Go to MENU and COPY your work first!
After recording each track and entering an 'out' point at the end, you are ready for MIXDOWN. In MIXDOWN you can select tracks, pan, EQ, and add effects. After the tracks are set up, you have to RECORD the MASTER. So, in MIXDOWN, press Play & Record and mix the song (with the right levels, fade if you are going to, etc.). When you are done, you are ready to enter MASTERING. When you get into the MASTERING screen it will have some final mastering tools like compression which you can add to the final MIXDOWN. When you've set the Mastering effects, go to menu, AUDIO CD and WRITE the CD. You can add several tracks before Finalizing if you want. The CD will only play in other CD players after it has been finalized. Hope that helps.

I think if you had the manual you would know the answer to the last question.

Tracks must be a minimum of 4 seconds long (page 118)

Hi folks :-) I'm affraid that we have started up wrong, but I hope we can fix it ! Problem: A band, we've made a que-track (everybody's playing and singing at the same time) now we've...

Real musicians do change tempo throughout a song, so its not necessarily a bad thing. As long as you like the sound it doesn't matter if you don't stick rigidly to a fixed tempo. Unfortunately you won't be able to fix the tempo after the initial recording so you'll have to live with it or re-record. If you need a click track to record along to, try recording yourself hitting drum stick together along to the already recorded track. As a human you can track small tempo changes much easier than a computer. If you need to create a count in, just copy and paste a section of this click track to the start of the track. I hope this makes sense!

Ikeep getting an error message when i go to mixdown/matering.it says that my tracks are too short, change outpoint. How do I change outpoint and to what do i change it to?Song is 4 mins. 23 secs long.

The 2488 requires a start point and end point in order to master down. The start point, by default is zero (the beginning of the song) so you will NOT have to create one, HOWEVER, you MUST provide an end point. The end point is wherever you wish the song to end, so, roll the BIG wheel to the end of the song, then, press LOCATE SET and OUT simultaneously. You have just now marked your out point and thus it will master the whole song. NOTE: If your song is 4:23, then the out point will be/should be a bit longer (a second or two- or even more- that's up to you) than that depending on where the song/music actually begins after the zero mark, therefore, make SURE you roll the BIG wheel enough to encompass the WHOLE SONG. The counter will reflect the time/length as a result of how far you roll the wheel. I hope this helps. One last note, do ALL this at the MIXDOWN prior to MASTERING.

TRANSFERING OLD TRACKS TO THE NEW TASCAM 2488-NEO

You'll need your PC as the intermediary. You'll have to do a USB export of the tracks you want from the DP01 to your PC and then connect the 2488's USB to the PC and do a USB import of those tracks into new tracks on the 2488.

Page 40 of the DP01FX manual will explain using the USB connection and page 43 details the steps for performing a USB export.

In the 2488 NEO manual refer to pages 80 and 81 for using the USB connection and importing the tracks.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

I want to sing over disk soundtrack.I have tascam neo. Please tell me how to do that,Thank you

The best way to accomplish this would involve ripping the sountrack from disk first using your PC to create a wav file and then importing the resulting stereo wav file into a pair of tracks on the 2488 NEO.

The process for ripping would depend on whatever software you use to rip from the CD (lots of free ones available out there) and the process to import a stereo wave into the 2488 NEO would be detailed in your 2488 manual on pages 81 and 81.

Hope this helps.

Neo drums ?

No the neo does not have the built-in drum patterns/drum machine like the origial grey 2488 did. It was abandoned for the 2488 MkII which was the intermediate model and hasn't reappeared. I create drum patterns either using an external machine recorded in real time to a track on the my 2488 or create a drum pattern on the PC which I save as a mono wav and import to a track on the 2488.

Having problems recording and playing back tascam dc-02 cf

I'm assuming you are plugging the left and right outputs from the karaoke machine into input A and B of the Tascam to record the stereo output of the Karioke. The Tascam works with mono only (you recreate the stereo mix at mixdown or when bouncing mono tracks together with the panning set). Therefore you should be assigning inputs A and B separately. You could press assign A and then the record button above track 1 and then press assign B and the record button above track 2. Then arm tracks 1 and 2 (by pressing record above each). When you then press play and record together you'll record input A onto track 1 and input B onto track 2.

Hope this helps.

Play and Record button not working

I have the same problem with all three of my Tascam 2488 MKII's.
It's a software problem and starts to show up when the harddisk gets full.

Backup your song files ( something you have to do anyway ) and then reformat the entire hard disk.
Then restore the songs you were working on lately.

Before doing this rather huge task, you can copy your latest song to another partition and go on with this copy.
This is only a provisional solution.

Hope this helps !
Best regards

Don't know how to Pre-Master or Burn to CD, please help me!

Don Q -

This answer assumes you have the 2488 mkI and not the newer mkII because the process may differ slightly on the mkII.

To premaster you first have to set an out point for the end of your pre-master (the start point is always zero). Go to the 'Audio CD' menu item and choose 'pre-master' under that. You'll see the word 'mastering' appear in the top left of the screen to let you know you've entered mastering mode. Make sure you have the tracks unmuted that you want to mix into the pre-master and have all of your eq, panning, etc set the way you want. Then hit record and play. The pre-master records to a stereo pair of dedicated internal tracks. You can redo the premaster as many times as you like which will overwrite those internal premaster tracks. You can clone the premastered tracks to a stereo pair of tracks, export them as waves or burn them to a CDR.

fnawesomewes - You have to press record and play to record your premaster.
