Your TV has to have a digital tuner. If you get to the input for digital tuner it will display the channels with decimal points 2.1, 2.2, etc. If you do not see that you have an analog tuner or cable ready.
Try changing the inputs until you get digital channels. If not, go to the store and purchase digital converter box...40 bucks

Hi trying to get my tv to work with an antenna. Need assist

HERE ARE SOME TIPS FOR SUCCESS:

Outdoor installation is best, but Antennas Direct antennas can also be installed indoors or in attics. (50% strength/range is lost indoors).
Simple, direct connections and installations are best. The more junctions in the installation, the higher the signal loss.
Each time the signal is split (to go to another TV) signal strength is reduced, so a low-noise amplifier may be needed to help compensate for the signal reduction.
Install the antenna where signal is “present”. Move the antenna to different locations until signals are found. Many times one end of the roof or room has better signal characteristics than the others.

Esa tv digital to analog

Hi.I assume you can watch some channels, using your indoor digital antenna. As far as I know, you need an intermediate "box", or interface between the cable TV coming in, and the decoder. This has to be installed by the cable company. Between the decoder and the interface, there are two connections. One signal connection and one UTP wire connection for communication between both units. At least, that's how it works in Belgium and most other countries.

Indoor antenna won't work on my cable ready set

You do have to make sure to switch the settings to an external antenna. You also will have to check that you have what is an analog signal available to you. If you antenna is analog it will only get analog broadcast. You may also need to switch to a digital tv antenna, The other thing is the range of you antenna. Most indoors, in a congested area will only pull in signal from about 20 to 25 miles out.

My Toshiba flat screen is not picking up the local digital channels

As an past Radio Engineer I feel compelled to tell you that the conversion to HD in FM and TV signals did not do all of us a favor.
The coverage pattern of stations has decreased to the level of about 70% due to this new advanced technology. I think what your real problem is comes from a misunderstanding of what a HD TV signal must be supplied from. In my house as an example which is 21 mikes away from Chicago and the Willis building where a lot of TV signals are from, the need to put up a new higher gain $100 HD TV antenna was required. You can get such antennas from Antennadirect web site. You will also require a length of high grade 75 ohm coax cable- I bought the high grade Digital TV cable from Gepco International with a 3 GHz bandwidth and also distribute the signal to a number of TV's either with a Wineguard or Blonder-****** distribution amplifier.
My antenna is mounted near 30 feet off the ground. Places like Radio Shack may sell these kinds of indoor TV antennas but they are depending on the lack of knowledge of the people buying them to sell the product. It also depends on how far you are from the source of transmission. If you are 5 miles in a high rise building facing the transmission tower, you might have luck with an indoor antenna, if you are 20 or 30 miles away from transmission you might have to go to more elaborate measures to get a signal down to the TV. There is no magic to it just a need for a person who understands the signal levels and what is needed. I spent time as a Chief Engineer for 4 Radio stations in Chicago as well as was involved in a FM HD installation or two.
See if you can find a Television shop that you can ask questions about your installation. They may be able to help you mount a roof antenna if you can not do it yourself.

Insignia digital tv converter/indoor antenna no signal

Ok first I can save you some money. Take your "HDTV" antenna back. There is nothing different about the antennas needed receive analog and digital signals. If you got reception without your converter box, use the same antenna with your converter box.

Next let's see if there is a problem with the box. Hook up a television with the antenna. How many stations do you get? Now hook up the same television & antenna, but this time put the converter box between the antenna & the TV. Do not turn on the box. Now how many stations do you get? If the number is different, the box is not allowing the antenna signal to pass through. That is bad. You want your signal to pass through the box so you can still pick up stations that don't broadcast digitally. Some areas of the country will not be covered by digital stations from all major broadcasters when the changeover happens in Feb.

My suspicion is either you did not have the antenna hooked up to the converter box when you searched for channels OR you are in an area that is not yet broadcasting digitally.

I hope this helps you solve your problem. Thank you for using FixYa and feel free to add more questions here by using comments.

Indoor antenna problems

I don't know the menu system on your model, but you have to check that the tuner is in the proper mode. Also, some of the new TV set models cannot receive a standard analog TV signal from its tuner.

As for the distance from the transmitter sight, this depends mostly on the antenna quality, antenna location, the power output of the transmitter sight, compatiblity of the TV to the received signal, and also the capability of the TV's tuner.

Modern TV sets are really designed to be used with a satellite or cable TV box with their respective service.

Terrestrial TV is dying out, and in a matter of a number of years, it will be gone.
