Model DV1531. Why is there no surround audio?

There is a decoding chip for surround sound. If it goes bad all you get is stereo. Happened to me with my Pioneer receiver.

I get surround sound with a dvd but not with the tv

You need to look at how the TV interfaces with the system. TV's are NOT sound sources, so don't expect surround FROM the TV. Get TV-related audio directly from the source to the Audiovox in a digital format and it may yield surround.

No surround sound coming from tv. surround sound

It all depends on the TV transmission. If it is stereo, you will get the surround sound. If it is not then you have to listen to ordinary sound.

I have a JVC DVD player that doesnt come with surround sound but i have surround sound speakers is there something I can buy so that I am able to use the speakers

If you have surround speakers with a surround system, then connect the Player to the surround system using for example RCA cables (White and Red).

If you have speakers only, connecting many speakers to a non-surround system won't give you surround.
In surround systems the sound is controlled, elaborated and distributed through the speakers by a circuit.

If you wnt surround sound the alternatives are :

  1. Connecting a surround system (eg.Home theater, receiver) to the player (amp+speakers)
  2. Upgrading the DVD to one with surround.
Let me know if you need more help.

bye.

G.

I am not sure how to connect altec lansing vs3251 5.1 with my tv

U can connect it by a Y connector. Its a 3.5mm stereo jack on one end and the other end splits into two RCA sockts. So u can use these RCA sockets to connect to feed the audio output from the TV. thats all.

How can i get the surround sound to work.

You need to get an HDMI cable going from your Cable Box to the Surround Sound system. If you are low on HDMI ports, you can RGB cables for Video.

Your quote: " I have a HDMI cable plugged into the TV and the Cable box." move that cable to Surround Sound and Cable Box, and use RGB cable or HDMI to go from Cable box to TV!

If your Surround Sound has no HDMI, use a Fibre Optic to go Cable to Surround. It will work Great!

Good Luck!

Help

you cannot get your tv to play surround sound through the speakers, but if your tv has either a scart 21 pin socket or an audio out, you can fit a scart to phono adapter and connect the phono plugs to the audio left right input on your sound system, likewise if you have audio left and right output(phono) on the tv, connect to audio in on your unit. You should have a choice of output channels on the system menu, similiar to DVD/video1/video2 or output 1 and 2 or auxilliary 1 and 2
