My duet front load washer has an F21 code. The washer does not drain. The manual says to check the drainage hose for a clog. I disconnected it and water runs freely through it. I'm still getting the error message. What should I try next? Thank you.

Have you checked the filter, hose, and plumbing where drain hose goes to?

If you have and none of these are blocked then you have a faulty drain pump which will need replacing

F21 Error Code on Whirlpool Duet & Kenmore Elite Front Loader Washers

This advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F21” error code.

“F21” is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

  1. First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
  2. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
  3. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
  4. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.
To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump.

F21 code and leaking from behind washer where hose comes out. Already used shop vac to drain hose, got code again on cleaning cycle.

F21 is a code for Long Drain.check to see if anything is clogging the pump.If you remove the 3 1/4" hex screws from the bottom panel, you can remove the panel.Behind the panel is a large white pump. You can remove the filter and check to see that nothing is clogged inside.

F21 is flashing on the display

If this is a Whirlpool Duet series front loading washer, "F21" is a Long Drain error code. This is usually an indication that you may have an obstruction somewhere in the drainage system. Most commonly, there is something lodged in the drain pump or inlet line running from the wash tub to the pump. There is a white screw off cap on the drain pump that you can remove to inspect the pump impeller and clean. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3608588-f21_error_code

Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris and small articles of clothing such as socks or under garments can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

NOTE: A "SUD" error code can often occur in conjunction with the "F21" error code. This is due to air being detected in the drainage system, which can occur if the pump is not running, or if you have an obstruction BEFORE the pump. You need to remove the inlet hose from the pump to ensure it is also not blocked. Correct your drainage system fault, and the SUD error (if displayed) should go away.

NOTE: If these preliminary measures do not correct your problem, you may have to replace the drain pump. It does not take much to damage the pump impeller or motor. Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced. If the pump requires replacement, the following link explains how:

Error codes

F27 = OVERFLOW CONDITION

Did you inspect the filter for clogs I have seen this happen many times The filter is located behind front lower panel and can be white in color follow the hoses its before the pump. I have seen the filter clogged and give these type of symptoms

but here is error code F27 out of the maintenance manual
If the overflow contact on the pressure switch is closed for more than
60 seconds, an Overflow Condition occurs. In an
overflow condition, the door remains locked and the drain pump runs
constantly, even if PAUSE/CANCEL is pressed twice and the display is
cleared. Turn off hot and cold water faucets and unplug the unit before
servicing.

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the drain pump, pressure switch,
water inlet value, and Central Control Unit (CCU).
4. Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects.
5. Check for drain pump failure.
6. Check the inlet valve for proper shut off.
7. Check the pressure switch for proper operation.

Whirlpool duet washer getting a f21 code.sems water not empting

"F21" is a Long Drain error code. This is an indication that you have an obstruction somewhere in the drainage system. In most cases, this means you probably have a clog in the drain pump. The following link explains:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r1484065-f21_error_code_whirlpool_duet_kenmore

You may have something getting caught in the pump impeller and slowing it down. Included is a follow-on link that explains how to check the drain pump to clean. You may also have to remove the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the inlet side of the drain pump. Debris can commonly clog in this area as well causing the drain cycle to fail.

Since the error code is generated if the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump is damaged and can't pump at the required volume, the error code will continue to appear until the pump is replaced.

NOTE: The "SUDS" error can commonly occur with the F21 error code as this is can be generated when air is sensed in the drainage system.
If the door won't open it could be jammed due to the program being interrupted.

If you have questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: If replacing the drain pump is required, the following link explains how:

For troubleshooting guidance, the washer comes with a technical data sheet. It should be located behind the lower toe panel directly below the door. If not located behind the panel, it will be affixed to one of the interior cabinet walls. The tech sheet includes diagnostics procedures, troubleshooting tips and the error code list.

Whirlpool Duet Sport Front loading washer and dryer with error code

An easy Fix. Take off the kick panel, 3 screws 1/4 inch. Make sure you have a shop vac ready or a lot of towels as there will be some water. Always disconnect power to washer and dryer, and turn off water to washer. Your filter most likely is clogged with change, screws, lint, and other household stuff that we leave in our pockets! Unscrew the cap on the filter, easy to find, since you have the kick panel off! Take everything out of the filter. Take your shop vac and **** out remaining stuff in hose. Also, **** up any water that has leaked in and around the washer. Screw the cap back on hand tight, put the kick panel back on, turn your water back on, plug it in and there you go! Maybe takes an hour and saves you a repair bill. If you are not comfortable with this procedure then call a maintenance person that is qualified. 775f844.jpg
