The spring attachment to the moving latch has broken off either replace the latch or drill a small hole in the latch body and attach some heavy steel wire to make a new attach point for the spring. the inside trim easily pops off and the latch just slides off.
This is what I did. I drilled a new hole in the latch body & the spring easily re-attached. Works like new. Thanks!
I just did the same thing!! so excited at how great that worked!!
My lady friend had the exact same problem. I drilled a very tiny hole in the latch body next to place where the plastic hook for the spring connection broke off. I reattached the spring to the two attachment points first and then slipped the latch body in up and down and finished. Great site and suggestions for fixing this problem easily and inexpensively. Took me about 10 mins after I found HiTech2's solution. Thank you for being so kind to share.

Door catches. One of the latches may have broken off and
is not lifting the other latch clear of the housing. Remove from any
power source, remove the cover of the cabinet. Slacken off the clamp
mechanism and ease the clamp over the guide to allow the door to
open. When a new door lever is in place, the door may be easily
adjusted by slackening off the screws that clamp the door
catch/actuators in place whilst holding the door closed and then
tightening the screws. The rear of the door may be adjusted by
slackening the lower door hinge screws and adjusting as required.
I
hope that helps.

I assume you're talking about the spring that keeps tension on the door hooks (latch heads, as they're called by Sharp). When you shut the door, the "hooks" are held down by this spring to actuate the door switches. To fix this, you'll have to separate the door panels. You can download the service manual from my Web site. There's a loop built into the latch head assembly and sometimes the loop breaks. If so, you can drill a tiny hold in it and reattach the spring there. There may also be a loop on the innner door panel to hold the spring. That one can break, too. If it's broken, you'll have to find a way to secure the spring to the panel. If the panel material is thick enough, a tiny screw eye could be inserted, then epoxied overnight to secure it. I've attached a diagram to this message that should help you. If that doesn't help you, I have the service manual for the R1600-series microwaves on my Web site at: http://www.microwavedisplay.com/R1610.pdf Repost if you need more help.

It does sound odd for it to blow the breaker. It should blow the fuse, not the breaker. But looking at the exploded view diagram, I don't even see a fuse! Makes me wonder if this is some foreign model. *grin* In any event, you will need to replace all the door switches since they all have been stressed by the same overcurrent. Also be sure that all the switch mount and door latch parts are activating properly when you open and close the door. The switches (generic replacements) are widely available from local appliance parts stores. This is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch mount.
Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.
Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.

SOURCE: Door Won't Close
What usually breaks is the door open lever, but sometimes there's just a grease buildup around the door open button.
On
a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to
diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control
panel needs to be removed.
Please unplug the oven first.

Once
it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press
against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door
latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should
open.
