The ERR message indicates a camera malfunction. In my D-90 manual it says that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter. The only way to do that is to turn the camera off and back on. Rarely, that won't work and you have to remove and reinstall the battery.

The manual also says that it this have frequently or persist to contact a Nikon authorized service center. I would contact Nikon tech support at www.Nikon.com and discuss the problem them before contacting an authorized service center.

SOURCE: Mirror Lock Up

I haven't heard of any firmware to fix this but you're not alone. A number of people suffer the problem. Rather than me just copying and pasting try googling "Nikon D50 mirror Lockup problem. There's plenty to read up on. You should find a solution, good luck.

SOURCE: D50 won't take a picture!

I was having the same problem.. And since I could not afford to take it to the shop, I tried everything I could think of...
Then I fixed it!!
It seems that the slide door behind the shutter was stuck for some reason... If you remove the lens.. (make sure the camera is in manual mode)... snap a shot so the shutter is up.. then gently slide the panel in the back down....
Once I did that.. the camera was working again.... Hope this easy solution works for you guys....

SOURCE: Shutter stays open

According to what you say, it seems that you selected B (Bulb) as shutter speed (and MANUAL mode).

First, check whether you are on MANUAL mode ("M"); then, check your shutter speed. If it's really in "bulb" mode, all you have to do is dialing the speed button down to figures that match your subject's light conditions and your other preferences involved in the exposure (ISO, lens apperture).

SOURCE: hi i have dropped my d50 and err comes up

There is a motor/gear assembly inside the camera that moves the lens in and out and covers the lens when it is retracted. When it dropped, you most likely cracked or shifted something out of place. A broken tooth does not stop function, but shudders when it hits the gap. A shifted gear, slips and similarly may cause this effect. If it doesn't open the shudder, you get no picture.

You will need to open it up and attempt to repair the mechanics that drive the lens.

Err on top of display on camera

Unfortunately, this probably won't be a good situation. Most of the time the ERR(or) message you're getting shows when there's an internal problem, and most likely a shutter error. Not an uncommon problem with the older consumer models like D40, D50, etc.

ERROR E840 FOR CANON IR5570

Hello renu,
E840 is a failure in the fixing/fusing assembly. This fuser uses uses induction heating instead of a lamp as it brings the device to a ready condition much more quickly.Without too much detail there is a shutter that limits the heat to the ends of the fuser roller when you are running 8.5x 14 paper or letter R so the ends don't melt.At power on the device locates the home position off this shutter. If that fails ........E840.This is not an uncommon problem, unfortunately, as there are some significant mechanical processes involved.I can help you reset the code, but it will likely come back.If it comes back, good luck if you are not trained specifically on this model.Enter service mode by pressing *additional functions*,release, press 2&8 simataneousely, release, press*additional functions* again. You may have to try this a time or two as it needs to be a fluid sequence.New screen appears. Press COPIER.New screen.Notice the tabs across the top.Press FUNCTION.New screen again.Press CLEAR.***********NOTE,we are going to select ERR at this point, Nothing ELSE!!! press ERR........hit the OK button in the lower right corner. Now power the device off by the power switch located on the right side, rear, halfway down. Now power up.The code will have cleared but one of the first things the device will do is check that shutter again. If there is still a problem it will return before the mainscreen even loads.I suggest opening the front door before you power up,this will inhibit the check. When the main screen loads it will display the door is open.Close the door and listen.A little buzz and humm is normal.Alot is not and E804. Hopefully is was a minor bind, and it will recover.I hope this helps, cause I sure have tried.Good luck :-)

Pull all the batteries, wait 30 seconds, put in a completely different card, put batteries back in and turn on and format the card--sometimes works

Nikon F100 does not advance film to start of roll,

Jim, it really sounds like one of threethings. Either will require a repair shop.
1. the film sensor is not recognizing film in the film chamber, or film across the back, therefore not telling the advance motor to advance film...
2. The film advance motor itself needs replaced.
3. The rear door latch switch needs replaced.
Since everything else seems to do OK, I doubt the main computer board is bad.

Nikon D50 Flashes Err and clicks

hi..
This screen shows areas of the photo that are overexposed slightly.
It flashes them to help you.
You get to this screen by pressing the up or down arrows when displaying the pictures you have taken.

To change it just press the up arrow when the camera is showing the screen until you get a display without flashing.

Once you have done this the display will be steady.
If you get any other screen in future you may have accidently pressed the arrow again.
Just cycle thru the displays to get back to steady.

thank u
