Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver Logo
Posted on Jan 25, 2011

Upon powering up my Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver, it enters Audyssey setup mode even though the microphone is not plugged in. Even if I plug in microphone and remove it, it still stays in Audyssey mode and I cannot get it to exit Audyssey set up. When the receiver is in this mode it is essentially useless, as no other functions or buttons work. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem and it is not speaker wires, cables, or dumb remote codes (really, remote codes.) I'm taking mine in for repair, and not reliying on straw grasping, speculative solutions.

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.

SOURCE: cant find universal remote code for the onkyo tx-sr605

Your onkyo receiver and remote controller only decodes 4 digit codes so what you have to do is to call the manufacturer of the remote controller it self and ask for the hexa decimal codes for their remote. They should provide it to you coz they're the ones responsible on doing that.

SOURCE: Onkyo TX-SR605 hdmi output jack

I haven't looked inside these or other similar units but if there is an extra unused input HDMI port next to the damaged port it may be possible to re-appropriated it as an output port by connecting the damaged port's wires to it after disconnecting it's factory wires. REMEMBER TO SEPARATELY SEAL THE DISCONNECTED WIRES TO PREVENT DAMAGE AND THEIR POSSIBLE FUTURE USE. Re-label the new port as the output HDMI and seal off the damaged port with tape (until replaced and reinstated). I strongly recommend photographing the original wiring locations for eventual repair to the original configuration.

My onkyo tx-sr605 7.1 a/v tuner will not switch from game/tv to cable/sat or any other mode. I can't even get into the setup moder It won't power on even if I press the power button manually.

You have this all backwards. So essentially it won't power on. THAT must happen before setup or anything else.

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Onkyo-TX-SR605-Receivers-manual/id/2526bh742/t/2/

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'nekkid'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

Unable to connect a blu ray dvd player to onkyo tx-sr605 via hdmi

Not sure what unable to connect means..but I will assume you have the correct cable.

First make sure you have plugged the from the HDMI cable from the DVD play into the IN 1 HDMI port on the back of your Onkyo

On the Receiver
Enter the Setup mode
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
Next make sure the HDMI monitor out is set to YES on the Receiver
Monitor out
HDMI Monitor - YES

Next you need to assign the HDMI INPUT to DVD
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
HDMI INPUT
DVD - IN1
CBL/SAT - IN2

This may be your issue.

Next step would be to verify your television input settings.

Nice receiver!

Best of luck!

My Onkyo RC-160 will not come out of the audyssey calibration mode. The microphone is not plugged in, I have tried a hard reset, pulling the power plug and nothing will bring it out of that mode.

It could be bad connection in microphone input jack and receiver think that the microphone is still plugged in. try to plug/unplug the microphone several times it should clear internal contacts of the connector and resolve the issue.

7.1 speaker setup: no sound coming from right front/surr speakers

Solution to having no sound coming from certain speakers in a 7.1 speaker setup for TX-SR606 receiver when playing a DVD.

Review the cable setup for the DVD player since it was identified as the source of the problem. Best to unplug and plug in the cables to ensure they contact the back of the receiver's RCA jacks. Redo the microphone setup for Audyssey 2EQ calibration. A good chance that it is the cable that may have caused the malfunction and loss of sound from the speakers. The cables can come loose during setup and not plugged all the way to the back of the RCA jacks or a defective cable causing signal loss.

Set-up problem with sound and speakers

I sent this TX-SR605 system to an authorized dealer for repair. It seems like it is a very simply problem - the internal set-up mic jacket closed circuit, so the system think the set-up mic is always plugged in (even when physically unplugged it, the system still detect plugged in). And it enters the automatic speaker setup and never quit.

Now I have the receiver back home and tested it. Everything worked O.K. now. It is a pity that this new-bought equipment (just one month) need repair for just a small action of plug in a mic ( I swear I plugged it in very tenderly). It is shame for such a unreliable performance happened on brand name like ONKYO. How can you be confident for an equipment failure in one month.

Brand new Onkyo Tx-sr605 won't leave stand by

If the unit will not leave standby I would remove all power, disconnect *all* connections at the back, reconnect to a power source and try powering on. This will eliminate any connection causing the Onkyo to stay in standby due to a short. If it still will not enter power-on mode, you may want to look at the power source (is it properly grounded?), but beyond that the unit probably needs to go back.
