Try going into menu input set up on tv and switch to av input. Just a thought I have the same model and had exact problem. All I had to do was change input style to av cable.

I have USB cable attached to tv and DVD player and

Connect the DVD to TV with HDMI or component video, don't use USB, USB on the TV is to insert a flashdrive/thumb drive to display a slideshow or download music.
Good Luck !

Trouble hooking up sony components..Bravia, Home theatre, blu-ray

Got your post, I will work with the model #s. Get back with you soon. Also a tip for now: HDMI carries true digital video and audio so you may not need the optic cables.

I can't seem to get my dvd player to play on screen

Set the TV to look for a signal on the same input your are hooking your dvd player to. Example, if your dvd is hooked to video 1, set the TV to show video 1 on the screen.

DVD is wired to the VCR and does not work

The Sony Bravia should have a number of component inputs, so you should be able to hook up the DVD directly to the TV. The only reason for hooking it up through the VCR would be to record a DVD on VHS... but that's for the birds--VHS is old technology.

Each component input on the back of the TV has a number. You then select to view the component you want by pressing the remote control button to change the display (it should show with one you're on... e.g., Video 1, Video 2, Video 3, etc.).
