This regards an Apriaire 700 that was installed professionally on a Rheen RGRM furnace. At this point the humidifier comes on during the funace ignition sequence but shuts off when the blower starts. I know that the humidifier should be on when the blower is on. I looked at how the unit was wired and found that the 110 plug for the unit is connected to a dedicated socket - the hot side of which is connected to the humidifier terminal on the furnace control board. This terminal is rated at 1 a/ 110vac capacity. The manual humidistat, which came with the humidifier is connected directly to the control wires coming out of the humidifier. Contact closure on the humidistat allows the humidifier to run as long as 110 is supplied to the dedicated socket via the humidifier control terminal on the furnace. Is this an acceptable way to wire the humidifier? I would have connected a 110vac relay to the furnace humidifier terminal and placed the n.o. contacts in series with the humidistat contacts and then connect to the humidifier control wires & connected the humidifier to a standard 110 outlet.

Hi,

You are absolutely thinking correctly....the humidifier should be running when ever the blower is running and the humidistat is not satisfied...in fact in some cases I have advised people even turn the fan switch on to run the blower longer to get more humidity in the air if needed....some furnaces do not have long enough run times to get enough water evaporated...

You have the idea of how it needs to go, so you should just go ahead and wire it up that way and you'll be glad you did!! You can get a relay for a few bucks and have a much better working system...

I have a aprilaire 700 I just installed on return plenum. Have a problem with the wiring, the instruction say to connect the R&C wires from humidistat to the same on furnace power strip. Is the C

Depending on the age of your furnace you may have an aux terminal for a humidifier. If not, you should use the white wire (heat) coming from the homes thermostat to power up the humidistat and ultimately bring on the humidifier. This way it will only run when in heating mode.

No "C" on furnace power strip for humidifier power "C"

Hello, since this humidifier has a transformer installed with it, you bring one wire from humidifier to Humidistat and then a wire from humidistat to Transformer. You will need a current sensing relay to turn the humidifier on and off with the Furnace cycle. I will attach a link for a wiring diagram for your Humidifier http://docs.electronicaircleaners.com/aprilaire_700a_installation.pdf

House is dry though it's quite cold outside and furnace is running. Aprilaire is turned up to 35 (I have a dial, not a digital panel). the water panel is completely dry (should it be?)

unless the humidty in your home is higher then 35%. if it is then the humidifier would not run. try turning it up higher and see if it comes on. Do you hear a click in the humidistat? as you turn up the dail when you hear the click is when the humidifier should come on. Also remember your furnace must be running for the humidifier to come on. if you hear the click and the humidifier fan comes on but no water, you may have a clogged inline filter located in the solinoid valve or a bad soliniod. all parts for your humifier can be purchased from www.aprilaire.com

We had our furnace repair turn on our Aprilaire 760 last summer. It gives off a very strong smell similar to an air freshener. We'd like that to be less in intensity. Furnance company says it's just fine....

I hope this helps you, have the repair person check to see if a furnace filter air freshener was installed at your last furnace check up without your knowledge. Also checked all wall and or floor registers to make sure the source of smell is not coming from them, it may be circulating though the duct system.last thing is to replace media pad in humidifier along with furnace filters, if you have air cleaner wash filters with hot water and baking soda, wipe & let dry before re- installing them. Your repair person may have use a strong smelling cleaning solution in humidifier that is now circulating though out your home, good luck.

I installed a 700A model on my furnace (does not have a bypass but has a fan built in). It is insallted on the supply side per the instructions. The "humidifier on" light is on when the funace is running....

try tying the 2 yellow wires together that come out of it and as long as door is on properly and unit is not defective it should start if not most likely the control board inside is bad

Dry house, albeit have two april aire humidifiers

The reason you can not run your humidifier while the blower is off, is because all the humidity would condense almost immediately and rot out your duct work. If you find that the humidity provided during the cycle of your furnace is inadequate, I would suggest purchasing a table top unit, and keep it in the room where you spend the most time. So, the answer to your question is no, you can not run a humidifier while your blower motor is off. Hope this helps.

if the funace has the 24 V you should use that but test it first with a call for heat to make sure it is 24 and not 120 coming out of that terminal!!!!!
