Perform the setup once again since all previous data/setting has been lost when the battery was disconnected
hello! could you please be more specific on how to perform the setup once again since i'm encountering the same problem than kamfa_munya? thank you!!!
Here is my procedure to overcome the undocumented error, related to a dead buffer battery.
You can download my procedure from here as well:
https://app.box.com/s/td45r2jbau8auvgaib...
This error is NOT mentioned in the user guide; it is not even mentioned in the technical repair and service manual!
If "Data Error Press Set Key" is displayed whenever connecting the Canon MP360 to the power line:
-Do NOT try the 'Set' key (arrow down), it won't work; you can only use the '-' key (arrow left)
-You will notice that the 'SCAN' button will erroneously show 'FAX' on a MP360 (it has no FAX!)
-The printer may work for COPY, but will NOT be recognized correctly as a USB device; any installation attempt under Windows (2k,XP,7..) will decline the USB device as 'unknown'.
Root cause: an undocumented buffer battery (most likely CR2450, not even mentioned in the service/repair manual, not shown on schematic drawing either).
When it is empty all settings are screwed, the data memory is corrupted or plain empty. This affects the USB connectivity as well.
This following method works to revive the printer.
Locating and replacing the dead battery is NOT mandatory. It would require major surgery to the printer case, removal of many parts.
You can continue with the dead battery, but will be forced to rerun this procedure below whenever reconnecting the power cable. Turning the printer off into standby is OK; the settings are kept in memory as long as power is applied to the printer.
1)Hold 'COPY' button while connecting printer to the power line to start the printer
2)Press 'Start' button as shown in the display
3)Press 'Set' key as shown in the display; the printer will remap the keys correctly to continue
4)Follow the flow chart below to reset the firmware; you probably do NOT need the first section "All Clear", as the memory is most likely completely wiped anyway.
In a nutshell you need to press this key sequence, i.e. the second portion of the flowchart:
1.'Additional Functions' - 'Scan' - 'Copy' - 'Scan' - several times '+'(right) to reach #5 (Type) - 'Set'
2.Leave 'FW1' for the MP360 - 'Set'(down) twice to accept the firmware and location 'USA'
3.'Stop/Reset' to finish this procedure
All this may apply to the MP370 as well; simply choose 'FW2' in this case by switching the "#5 Type" with the left/right arrow key to the alternate firmware choice.
As long as you do not unplug the printer it will now work as it should; it can be controlled via USB and execute all functions again. It will even work in Windows 10 if selecting it as MP260...

Hi
When you open the print cartridge access door there is a black toggle switch that needs to be in the depressed position to let the unit know the door is closed. If the cartridge door is not completely closed, the error message displays.
1. Open, and then close the cartridge door of the product. Make sure that the door rests securely against the body of the product.
NOTE: To see how to close the cartridge door of your specific model, see the cartridge section of your product's User Guide.
2. Check the product control panel to see if the error message still displays.
If the issue persists, see the next step.
Check the cartridge door for obstructions
1.Inspect the door and the area around it to make sure that no obstructions prevent the door from closing completely.
NOTE: Bits of paper, packing materials, and tape might prevent the door from closing completely.
2. Remove any obstructions.
3. Check the product control panel to see if the error message still displays.
If the problem still persists you need to reset the product...
