Maybe the memory is the wrong type or is too big (too many Mb for one slot).

Check your Motherboard specs or goto CRUCIAL.COM and run their SCAN MY COMPUTER program to see the max memery size for pc and for each slot.

Good luck and please post back with your results.

From what I can tell the Dell Precision Workstation 670 does support over 4GB of RAM. However when you have over 4GB of RAM installed in the system you have to have the Memory Cooling Shroud connected to keep the memory cool. Also this is only shipped out when the system is ordered with over 4GB of RAM originally. If you do not have this part you can order it from Dell buy calling 877-671-3355.

Dell PE 1600SC invalid memory configuration detected

You may need to install memory in matching pairs. If the new memory is a single 1Gb module and you didn't already have a similar one they may not work together. Try removing the original module(s) and see if it makes a difference.

Server

Hey there chandru 2020, the configuration problem which you are experiencing is related to the positioning of your ram in the appropriate slots. Servers work with matching pairs of ram, installed in either two, four or eight sticks of memory. The placement of less than a full set , in your case two minimum is also very specific. You should go to the Dell website to access configuration diagrams for your server model. Also check to ensure your ram is compatible, and try installing just one pair at a time. There is also a possibility that a blank may need to be inserted in empty dimms. I hope this helps. Good Luck!
