As to the number of pictures you can take: This depends on a number of things - 1) Internal memory of the Camera 2) Size of your memory card 3) Settings you shoot with.

Depending on the camera you have you can set the quality and type of format - format could be your camera's raw capability which is usually the largest size to save an image in or it could be set to JPEG (here you normally have settings like Fine, Medium and High or Small, Medium, Large) some cameras only offer JPEG output and will only show you the option to set it on small, medium or large.

Smaller size = More photos, but keep in mind that this affects what you can do with the photo. If you want to use it for the Web or mobile then small is no problem, if you want to print the photo then a medium (preferably large) setting should be used.

The best is to have multiple cards and then you can continue shooting even if you are not at a place where you can download what you have already.

Nice camera! Do you mean the battery housing cover plate? It should swing open like a small door when you press the cover latch.

If you are referring to the circular threaded hole on the bottom of the camera body, it is actually the attachment point for a tripod mounting plate. Mounting the camera is optional- no need to have anything screwed in here. Load film, load battery, advance film with the crank arm, and shoot away! Have fun.

This camera uses 35mm film, not APS film. 35mm is a larger format, giving MUCH better results, at the expense of having to manually pull the leader across to the take-up spool each time you load a roll.

After loading the back with film, the dark slide is inserted so you may remove the back without ecxposing the film. Suppose you had 2 different back, 1 with b&w and the other has color. You are shooting with color. Load the color film and before shooting, remove the dark slide. After a few shots, you decide to change to B&W, insert the dark slide, change backs, remove that dark slide and continue shooting. This is assuming that you have 2 dark slides, 1 for each back. If you only have 1 dark slide, then the back that is not on the camera needs it if it is loaded with film and the other back will have to stay on the camera.

For outdoor pictures in daylight, I'd suggest ISO 200 film. Indoors, you may have to go to 400 or even 800.

There certainly is nothing wrong with Kodak films. If you're shooting slides, you might want to give the Fuji films a try, they tend to give much more saturated colors.

Sorry, converting a film camera to digital involves more than just a back cover. Medium- and large-format cameras can do this because the back involves the entire film transport system. Open up the back of your AE-1 and you'll get an idea of just how much of the camera is devoted to film--the casette on the left, the take-up spool on the right. Converting the camera to digital would cost a lot more than a new digital camera.

Black film as in underexpose, after you have them printed?

If you open a roll of 120 film:
Remove the little tape holding to the film.
Place film onto Film Spool Studs.
Pull film out from film leader and thread to Take Spool.
Turn until Arrow Line on film aligns with Start Mark of Film Holder.
Close film cover or back.
Advance camera to Zero (0). Now you are ready to shoot.
Just rememer what film speed your are using.

I used to use point and shoot film cameras. My guess is that there is a button underneath which when you depress will automatically rewind the film. Sometimes the button is very small that you may need a ballpen point to press it. Hope this helps cuz i have no idea what the Pentax Zoom looks like. I am guess it is a point an shoot type and not an SLR. If it is a point and shoot type, you must be sure the battery has power or else it won't rewind.
