I have an older (25+years) Schwinn airdyne bike. The mchanism on the front wheel hub that drives the cable to the speedometer is not working. As a result, cable not driven and no load or speed indication. Can't find bike model number, but S/N is EY736113, Anyone got any suggestions where to find or get replacement part or part number? I can send you a copy of the owners manual, but please send me a message with your email address. Mine is [email protected] I even have the parts should you need them. The issue however, is to determine which of the 2 older model Airdynes you have. If you can attach a picture of the computer display (black box) and a close up of the wheel hub where the black cable from the computer is supposed to connect to the cable hookup attached to the right side of the wheel hub...that will help me assess what exactly is the problem with your computer causing it not to operate. How about going to a Schwinn dealer who has been in business for a long time? The speedometer drivers are no longer available, you have to get it changed over to electronic. This not something that you can do on your own, it has to be done by someone who knows the product. We have been in business 40+ years and sold Air Dynes since 1979, I do know what I am saying.

What is the wheel circumference of older 1988 AirDyne to use for bike computer to replace Schwinn ergometer?

The wheel circumference of a 1988 Schwinn AirDyne exercise bike may vary depending on the specific model and tire size. To determine the wheel circumference for your bike computer, you'll need to measure it directly. Here's how you can do it:
  1. Measure the Tire Diameter: Lift the front wheel of the bike off the ground so it's freely spinning. Use a tape measure to measure the diameter of the tire from one side to the other. Make sure you measure the actual tire, not the rim.
  2. Calculate the Circumference: Once you have the diameter in millimeters, you can calculate the circumference using the formula: Circumference (mm) = ? (pi) x Diameter (mm).
    • You can approximate ? as 3.14 for simplicity.
  3. Convert to Centimeters or Meters: To make it more compatible with most bike computers, you might want to convert the circumference from millimeters to centimeters or meters.

What maintenance should be performed on a 12 year old airdyne that still works perfectly?

While I do not own an airdyne and have never seen one up close: To keep it working perfectly for a longer period of time, your bottom bracket bearings could probably use a little fresh grease as well as the 'wheel' or fan hub bearings. any moving parts that concact other parts might benifit from a touch or silicon spray or a bit of grease.

I have an old Airdyne, probably 20-25 years old. I don't have the owner's manual any longer. All I want to know is what the rate of energy (calorie) expenditure is at each level on the speedometer. I've...

Stationary bikes provide a no impact workout because your feet never leave the bike pedals. This is preferable if you have back or joint problems that cannot tolerate repeated jarring of high impact exercises.

Stationary biking can burn 315 to 466 calories when done vigorously. This is a great exercise especially if you are trying to lose weight. You'll burn more calories in less time compared to other cardio exercises like high impact aerobics. You'll never burn this amount of calories while playing.

Load indicator and odometer and spedometer just quit working. Bike is ancient-circa 1988-but otherwise works well.

Same here. Can't find the part online. Local Schwinn dealer said they haven't made that part in at least 10 years. I put on a regular bicycle Cateye odometer. At least I have a measure, although it does feel like it agrees with the Schwinn odometer, even when I set the wheel size to just 100 cm I think it is still ~20% high.

Battery cover & battery type for ergometer older unit

The battery cover is no longer made since this bike was last built in the late 1980's. I would recommend giving the man a timer/watch. I do have one of these little black round batter covers, and would sell for $25. However, all it does is create a timer for the rider. He already can use the analog computer to see his mileage, load, and can re-set the lower mileage to zero every workout. All the battery cover will allow is for him to set a timer for how many minutes he wants to workout for. Or he can pust the start button to time his workout. (my email is [email protected])

Battery missing for exercise bike

I have a Schwinn airdyne (model AD-3) that uses a button type battery in the count-down timer, which is above the work load indicator or the 'speedometer'. According to the manual I was given with the bike, it utilizes a 1 1/2 volt watch - type battery (LR44, A 76 or equivalent).

Hope this helps.
