Hi,not a computer type dude.Bought HP GSA-T20L for my Toshiba Portege M100. Doesnt recognize/acknowledge drive when computer is turned on with drive installed but if is plugged in once awake will work. When people start talking about patches,firmware etc, I start to get a headache! Is this drive compatable with my laptop? I am running Windows 7 with 2 gb ram and a 60gb 7200 hard drive.

Most DESKTOP computers have a jumper to "clear CMOS settings",
but most NOTEBOOK computers do NOT have that jumper.

The password exists to protect the owner of the computer, should a thief be trying to use the computer.

You probably can remove the disk-drive, and copy the files onto a new computer, if you don't want to pay TOSHIBA to bypass the password.

Download a new driver from hp.com and see if that fixes it.

I don't know what the connector the HDD uses is called, but I do have a pinout if your interested.

Boot the notebook to the BIOS.There must be some tab like a "diagnostics" or "tools". select it using the side arrow.It should allow us to take a hard drive self test.Id it displays an error "no IDE device found",exit the BIOS and turn off the notebook.Perform a hard reset followed by reseating the hard drive.If the issue persists contact the manufacturer.Its an isue with the hard drive connectors

I have the same problem and after two months (I'm a total beginner), I finally stumbled on this site.. check it out and if you can help me I would appreciate it. I downloaded the update, but I can't figure out what to do with it to make it work. I hope it helps.
