GE Monogram side by side freezer and refrigerator

Our unit is a GE Monogram side by side which is about 19 years old. About 3 weeks ago, the freezer stopped freezing and the refrigerator stopped cooling but the light inside still functioned. Cleaning the condenser and turning the electricity on and off had no effect. After a few days the freezer and refrigerator started working again and they have seemed to operate fine since then. Trying to figure out:
whether to call a repair person or just replace the unit
what type of repair to even suggest

The freezer temperature varies over periods of days/ weeks from -19 to -6 degrees regardless of how often the door is opened or closed. I have pulled it out from it's surrounding cupboards to improve...

I just recently had that problem with a monogram, it turned out to be the temp control unit it's inside the refrigerator. It's control board gets a little corded from the moisture. You can unscrew it pretty easy, 2 screws and examine the board. If you see corrosion or burns on the solder points Just order a new one.

My refrigerator won't stay cold. The freezer is working but not the refrig side

I have the GE Monogram ZISB480 side by side. Once again I have your same problem of the freezer freezing (good), but the refrig does not go below 45-50. All the official repair guy did was do a quick 1 hour defrost. I did that also just two weeks ago and it was fine. Now it is not cold enough again. I just looked in the freezer using a mirror I was able to push a 2"x2" trap door open towards the fridge. It must be automated and malfunctioning. Why the heck the repair guy didn't work on that? This week I'll call for another repair job ($85 for him to just come to my door) and ask him to fix the trap door. -Bob

GE Monogram side by side not cooling

I had the same problem. GE Man said that since the unit had been allowed to warm so much, we needed to empty it, unplug it, and totally leave it alone for 24 hours for any excess water to drain out. Then, we needed to plug it in and let it run with NO ITEMS INSIDE AND NO OPENING OF THE DOORS AT ALL for 48 hours. After that, we started using it again and it was Perfect!! I thought it was a lost cause, so this worked and didn't cost me a dime!!

My refrigerator is a GE Monogram ZISS480NRGSS S/N SH031008. The temperature in both the freezer and the fresh food sides increased and did not go down. A technician came in and changed a valve (I do not...

We need to have a look at the main control board part number WRO2X11838 Tell me if the compressor is running while no cooling or if stopped. Unplug refrigerator and see if the top of compressor is too hot to keep you hand on. My drawing show the control bord in the area of the compressor and inside a box. Let me know if it has burn marks on both sides. Thanks, Let me know, Sea Breeze

GE Monogram freezer side working but refrigerator side is not.

Did you clean the condenser?  Is the unit FULLY defrosted?   Defrost fully!!!!!!
Did he check the amount of gas in the unit?  If your unit has low gas...it is in need of more.  R12 is expensive.
Check gas level:  Shut unit for at least one hour.  View compressor.  Several pipes...we're looking at the largest.  Start the unit.  This pipe will begin to frost.  If it does not clear to dry, ice or wet...stays frosted...it is low.  Get the repair guy back ... but ask how much he'll charge first.

GE monorgram frost in the ice shute

Sounds like the ice door in the dispenser isn't closing properly or all the way which lets warm air in condensates then freezes.
